CC2538DK: Looking for Shield For CC2538 devices

Hello!

I'd like to connect the CC2538 devices to an STM microcontroller or a Raspberry Pi using a shield. Basically, I'm looking for a shield to replace the SmartRF06 so I can connect the CC2538 to a microcontroller. I've done this with Digi's XBee devices using the shield in this link ( https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12847 ). I would like to do something similar for the CC2538 devices. Can you suggest an appropriate shield? Or is there a different way I can connect a microcontroller?

Hi,

Yes, this is possible.

In the following reference design, you can connect the CC2538 EVM to a BBB using the USB interface: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/ZIGBEE-LINUX-SENSOR-TO-CLOUD

I'm not aware of any shields though.

Thank you for your answer! Is the BBB the Beagle Board Black (sorry, I'm new to programming with TI devices)? And Can I use C or C++ code on the BBB? I'm familiar with C and C++, so I'd prefer to use one of those languages. Basically, I want to transmit packets from one board to another, and save the received the packets to a text file (similar to what Smart RF Studio does). Can I do this using UART with the BBB?

Yes, ZIGBEE-LINUX-SENSOR-TO-CLOUD is based on C/C++ and it’s no problem to use C/C++ as application programming language.

That answers part my questions. Here's my other questions:

1. Is the BBB the Beagle Board Black (sorry, I'm new to programming with TI devices)?

2. Basically, I want to transmit packets from one board to another, and save the received the packets to a text file (similar to what Smart RF Studio does). Can I do this using UART with the BBB?

1. Yes, BBB stands for Beaglebone Black.

2. Yes, it should be no problem.

Hello!

Thank you very much! From searching online, it looks like the Beagle Board Black is similar to a Raspberry Pi. Is it possible to do this using a different Beagle Board (Green for example), Raspberry Pi or an STM board? I'm familiar with STM32F100 series boards (Specifically the STM32F1000RB).

Yes, it is no problem to do this on different MCU.

By the way, you can refer to to use ZNP host framework which I suppose it is more suitable for your application.

Hello!

Thank you for the information! I'm new to all of this, so it will take some time to fully understand the design guide, but I do appreciate it! :)

It looks like the design guide uses EK-TM4C1294XL launchpad and the EM Adapter BoosterPack. If I buy these (and program them properly haha), will I be able to send data from one CC2538 device, receive data at the other CC2538 device, then transmit the data to the microcontroller (EK-TM4C1294XL) using UART, and save that to a text file to be analyzed by the microcontroller or a connected laptop/computer? I just want to make sure these devices will suit my purposes.

Yes, I see no problem on such application. By the way, it’s no need to use EK-TM4C1294XL launchpad and CC2538EMK when using ZNP host framework. You can use any MCU and ZNP to do it.
