CC2530-CC2591EM-RD: ZNP freezes after adding 50 + lighting nodes

When you power on 50 modules at the same time, they might cause RF traffic jam and cause this freeze. If you wait some time, can ZNP come back to normal?

Only after restarting the hub only it works. One more observation is I flashed ZNP in CC2531 USB dongle, but never added any modules in that, but when the 50 modules were powered altogether the USB dongle also freezes even there is no modules directly paired with that.

Maybe try to test this with ZTool and see if you can see the same issue.

This may be dependent on network settings such as NWK_MAX_DEVICES or ZDSECMGR_TC_DEVICE_MAX (for Zigbee 3.0 devices).  There are also known Flash/RAM limitations involving the CC2530 and a list of fixed issue recommendations in regards to Z-Stack 3.0.2 or earlier.  Staggering device joins and increasing MAC buffer sizes are especially  worth considering given your network description.  Koen Kanters may already be aware of some limitation, or you could contact the zigbee2mqtt community for more details/help with this software platform.

what is the maximum device can this CC2530 can handle? I tried adding just 15 modules with CC2531 USB dongle, initially it adds but when i tried to control it from AF data request command it is not getting controlled.

Do you ask about how many end device can connect to CC2530 coordinator? If yes, the default value is 20 in Z-Stack 3.0.2.

I just added only 10 end devices (lighting modules), with CC2531 ZNP and that too works only at the time of adding only, after few minutes the device(ZNP) not responding.

I checked the device with UTIL_GET_DEVICE_INFO but it shows the device is in HOLD as shown below,

Hi Karthick,

To further debug this issue you will need a sniffer device to better understand the over-the-air communications taking place.  A full Z-Tool log could also be helpful to understand how you initialize and commission the Zigbee network with the ZNP.

Is there a way to add routers in between the Coordinator and End device? 

You can add router into network but the mesh routing is handled by Z-Stack. You cannot assign routing in application.

It's not only the coordinator. Coordinator and routers in the network work together to decide the routing.

My urgent requirement is i need to control at least 48 devices through CC2530/2591 ZNP, I will change the ZNP hardware later, Is that possible?

Yes, that's possible. At least, our own design of Linux Zigbee HA 1.2 gateway can add 160 devices without problem.

So if i first add a router device to a coordinator, how to add the second device to the router, by default when i add devices it is getting paired only with the coordinator upto a limit and i am unable to add further more devices. Pls help in this, may be I am wrong in some thing,

1. If there are coordinator and routers in the network and you enable permit join, device can join through coordinator or routers, which depends on who respond to beacon request fast.

2. No, we use routers in our Zigbee network to reach 160 devices in total and it's CC2530+CC2592 acting as coordinator.

In Zigbee 3.0 you would be able to get child management updates through Parent Announce broadcast messages.  With either this profile or Zigbee HA 1.2.2a you can use Route Discovery (ZDO_EXT_ROUTE_DISC) after receiving the Device Announce (ZDO_END_DEVICE_ANNCE).

I checked with the lighting module vendor, they confirmed me that the modules will have only repeater function and not router function, so the modules won't act as repeater right?

What lighting module do you refer to here? Is it based on your own CC2530-CC2592 design?

No it is from Third party Tuya module based lighting module (EFR32 based).

I don’t think you can set this on a Third party Tuya module based lighting module (EFR32 based). A device type is fixed when product is manufactured. However, a light device is usually a Zigbee router and you can try to join it in a Zigbee to confirm device type.

Maybe you are referring to Distributed Networks, a new feature of Zigbee 3.0 that are formed by the first router that attempts to steer a network without the existence of a coordinator (i.e. no trust center).  There is a brief explanation in the SWRA615 White Paper.  I am not aware whether this mode of operation is supported by your third-party device.

However I have limited the device count to 25 now we don't have the network freezing issue, but whenever there is a power recycle it will take few seconds for reconnecting that is not an issue.

There is a new problem I am facing now, when i keep adding the modules in a single strech it keeps adding, suppose if we take some time gap like 10 minutes to add another module, it is not happening, the Ztool shows some warning messages like the attached screenshot. Some times it works when we run the coordinator.js script but most of the time it is not adding, what may be the cause of the problem, The ZNP should work stable for atleast 25 modules without any issues.

I've seen similar warning messages before, they should not be an issue.  They are Management Update Network Requests.  Can you please evaluate the newest SIMPLELINK-CC13X2-26X2-SDK ZNP solution?  Have you tried debugging the firmware to further determine the source of your joining issues?
