Hello, I have used Z-Stack Linux GW with Raspberry Pi 3 so far without any problem. Now I want to use Raspberry Pi zero W but when I run Z-Stack Linux application it issues "Illegal instruction" errors. When I searched for it I found this post and the same problem, so I changed the -march flags from armv7-a to armv6 and recompiled Z-Stack Linux GW. But unfortunately the problem still exists! Is the any other thing that I must do in order o run Z-Stack Linux GW on Raspberry Pi zero w?

Basically, you only need to setup cross compiler correctly to make it work. You can refer to https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/103737/cross-compile-for-raspberry-pi-zero-from-ubuntu to setup cross compiler for Raspberry Pi Zero.

I previously used Raspberry Pi 3B to compile Z-Stack source based on this instruction, Now I use Raspberry pi zero itself to compile source for it. Isn't it possible? Unfortunately I don't have much knowledge regarding cross compilations.

But unfortunately I still can't run Z-Stack Linux GW applications on RPI Zero. They are compiled successfully on RPI Zero but fail to run with Illegal Instruction error.

“Illegal instruction” is not much related to Z-Stack Linux Gateway reference design. It’s more about your cross compilation environment or tool chain on Zero it self. You can refer to https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=247501 to see if you can solve this issue.

I finally could find the solution. The problem was with pre-built protobuf-c libraries that comes with Z-Stack Linux source. I got the protobuf-c source and recompiled it for armv6 and also change the -march flags to armv6 in the Makefiles and recompiled all and it ran successfully.

Hi Ahmad Fateh,

I am trying to cross compile protobuf-c for armv8 but could not generate libprotobuf-c.It will be great if you can share the steps you followed to cross compile protobuf-c library.

Try to refer to steps in https://sunmaysky.blogspot.com/2017/06/build-ti-z-stack-linux-home-gateway.html. It's written for Ubuntu Virtual Machine but should apply to embedded Linux.

Thanks for sharing the link.My interest is specifically for cross compiling libprotobuf-c library.So the linux machine steps wont help me.TI already has user guide for how to build gateway on linux host.

Hello Vikas,

I think the pre-built protobuf-c library that comes with Z-Stack Linux source must be excited on armv8 ( because of backward compatibility) because it is built for armv7. I actually did native-compilation on RPI Zero itself. These are steps I did:

1. Download protobuf-c source from THIS LINK

2.Run in the terminal:

./configure && make && make install

3.Copy libprotobuf-c*.* files into Z-Stack-GW/Source/ protobuf-c-arm/lib
