We have a CC2654 chip down (not module) design and are using the CortexM4 Bluetopia SDK v1.2 R2 version for the stack running on top of TI-RTOS version 2..10.01.38.

1. What is the default setting for Tx Output power?

2. How can this be altered (API, register, etc.)?

3. Some regulatory tests require setting a fixed output at prescribed frequencies. Is there a mode that supports discrete control?

Hi Alan,

1. The default Tx power set is 12dBm. It is set in the service pack.

2. You can alter it by either (a) modifying the service pack OR (b) using the VS_Set_Max_Output_Power() API

For (a), please refer to: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC256x_VS_HCI_Commands . You would need the Script Pad tool to modify it. It's available at: www.ti.com/.../wilink-bt_wifi-wireless_tools
For (b), please refer to : e2e.ti.com/.../1635058 . The VS_Set_Max_Output_Power() must be called immediately after loading the service pack.

I have one more question concerning FCC Testing.

When referring to this wiki/document: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC256x_FCC_Certification_Guide

I notice that Test Modes 11 to 13 involve hopping on all channels.

However, The API call I have access to is this:

VS_Enable_FCC_Test_Mode(unsigned int BluetoothStackID,
VS_Modulation_Type_t Modulation_Type,
Byte_t Test_Pattern,
Byte_t Frequency_Channel,
Byte_t Power_Level,
DWord_t Generator_Init_Value,
DWord_t EDR_Generator_Mask)

It doesn't look like this supports a hopping mode, or a data packet mode DH1...

So it looks like I will need to write a custom function for this hopping mode, following guidance from, and sending raw HCI commands:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC256x_VS_HCI_Commands

Is there any way around writing this custom function (using TX/RX mode)? For example; "Advertising Mode" counted as RX testing.
Just looking to avoid re-inventing the wheel.

Hi Alan,

If you're looking to use the TI Bluetooth Stack, then yes - you need to write a custom function for the "HCI_VS_DRPb_Tester_Packet_TX_RX (0xFD85)" command using the "HCI_Send_Raw_Command()" API.

However, you can also use the desktop based "Bluetooth Hardware Evaluation Tool" - processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC256x_Bluetooth_Hardware_Evaluation_Tool which has inbuilt support for the Packet Tx/Rx command.

Our test lab is claiming we need to perform a FCC hopping test, but in my opinion this is something that TI should have done when they certified the BT stack. They claim the need to perform operations that are normally out of our control (i.e. Time Frame, Measured time to return to one channel, etc).

1. Attached is a sample test report of a this hopping test. Do you have a similar report from testing done on your stack?

Good information, but we want to leverage TI's testing on the CC2654MOD. I was told to look on the FCC website, but this is overwhelming. What is the FCC ID for the CC2654MOD module? We would like to review the FCC reports and leverage what we can.

Hi Alan,

Please clarify - you have stated CC2654MOD, however, there is not such a device. There is the CC2650, no module version, and the CC2564, which is what I think you are referring to. It has a CC2564MOD, which is indeed FCC certified. From page 1 of the datasheet:

Fully Certified Bluetooth 4.1 Module • Best-in-Class Bluetooth (RF) Performance

– FCC (Z64-2564N)/IC (451I-2564N) Modular (TX Power, RX Sensitivity, Blocking) Grant (see Section 6.2.1.3

And Section 7.1:

7.1.1 FCC Certification

The TI CC2564MODx module is certified for the FCC as a single-modular transmitter. The module is a FCC-certified radio module that carries a modular grant. The module complies with the intentional radiator portion (Part 15c) of the FCC certification: Part 15.247 transmitter tests. For more information, see CC2564MODx Modular Grant, FCC ID: Z64-2564N. A Class 2 Permissive Change is applied to CC2564MODA.
