CC2564C: BLE Mode Power Consumption

Hello,

I'm posting on behalf of my customer.

"We are currently implementing a BT module which utilizes the CC2564C. The device is working well in BT classic mode but we are still working on implementing BLE. For BLE it is critical that we minimize current consumption to extend product run time. I have reviewed the datasheet but it is not clear to me what we would expect in terms of average current in the low power mode. Specifically, the device should be connected and able to receive data in order to wake up the system. What average current consumption would you expect in this type of mode?"

I saw that there is a wiki page with Bluetooth Current Consumption numbers, but did not see BLE specifically. Can you advise on the scenario described above?

Please check section "5.5.2.2 Current Consumption for Different Low-Energy Scenarios" in data sheet at www.ti.com/.../cc2564c.pdf

LE mode consumptions are provided with classic disabled..

Hi Hari,

This is helpful, but the customer is seeing close to 5mA when connected and waiting to receive data to wake up the system.

Their scenario is the following:

Our configurations for LE are
1. the connection interval is set to be 10 ms
2. connection latency is 0.
3. Have enabled eHCILL.
4. Output power is 8dBm.
Data through can achieve ~7k byte/s with this configuration. Do you have any official power consumption with these configuration? So we can decide our next steps.

BTW, I have disabled Page scan. Is there any method to disable classic Bluetooth and check if classic Bluetooth is working?

Hi Hari,

Thanks. Upon making changes, the customer has tried to reduce the connection interval to be 500ms. The power consumption is ~1.5mA. Is it reasonable with data sheet(1mA/static current consumption + 199ua/connected, slave role )?

Hi Tom,

It seems their numbers are much closer to data sheet specs now.. (1.5 Vs 1.2ma).. Some variation between customer application and our measurements is expected..
