CC2650 SPPBLE example problems "...SPPBLEClient.out Could not open file"

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BLE-STACK, CC2640, SYSBIOS

I am trying to run the SPPBLEClient and/or SPPBLEServer examples on the SmartRF06 Eval Board with the CC2650EM 7ID

I am getting the error

"Cortex_M3_0: GEL: Encountered a problem loading file: C:\Users\workspace\SPPBLEClient\FlashROM\SPPBLEClient.out Could not open file"

when trying to debug the SPPBLEClient example.

Other examples from the BLE have worked fine like the TimeApp.

Help figuring this out would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

  • Hello Andrew,

Can you attach your full build log file and list the steps you did to build the project?

    Best wishes
  • Hi!

I'm using CCS 6.1. The main steps I took were downloading and installing the ble-stack and then downloading the SPPBLE software patch (http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDC-SPPBLE-SW-RD

  • Hi Andrew, it appears there is a configuration error with this project and the TI-RTOS/XDC tools package. Can you see the compatible RTOS version under project properties->general->RTSC?
  • Here it is

  • Andrew, change the checkbox to 2.14.1.20 for this project. The selected 2.11 will not work.
  • I made the changes but I'm still getting errors.

    The problems given are:

  • It appears something is still not configured correctly with the RTOS.Try to deselect the RTOS_SIMPLELINK_INSTALL_DIR under other repositories. I'm not sure, but I believe CCS is getting confused with multiple RTOS versions
  • My apologies, BLE stack v2.1 doesn't yet support RTOS 2.14 without some tweaks. Select the v2.13 RTOS in addition to following my above comment and you should be good.
  • Hey Sean,

Unfortunately I'm still running into issues after implementing the suggested changes.

By the way I want to thank you for helping me. I realize that using these pre-made projects should be straight forward.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Andrew,

Try deleting the following folders after verifying 2.13.0.06 is selected for TI-RTOS under Project Properties -> CCS General -> RTSC tab -> Products and Repositories:
    ..\Projects\ble\SPPBLEClient\CC26xx\CCS\Config\src
    ..\Projects\ble\SPPBLEClient\CC26xx\CCS\SPPBLEClient\FlashROM\configPkg

    and then rebuild the project.

Let me know if that builds without errors.

    Best wishes

  • IT IS WORKING!

Thank you so much to the both of you, Zahid and Sean!

Would following these steps also be necessary for the SPPBLEServer project to work?
  • It depends. If the CCS configuration settings shows up correctly, you shouldn't see any errors.

  • Guys when i tried debugging the SPPBLEServer Project ,the above shown error  keeps popping up .I have no problem in debugging the Client project .Can someone tell me why this is happening? And what needs to be done for the same?

  • Looks like could be file name/path issue. Can you attach the debug log? The output filename should be: SPPBLEServerStackFlashROM.out

You can double check in Project Options -> Linker -> Output.

    Best wishes

  • zahid thank you for the reply,

The output filename is as specified .What can be done??

Btw its off topic still ,if i connect the sensortag to the 10 pin debug connector on the RF board ,  and try to flash the code  ,will i be able to successfully flash the code???

  • Hi,

I just tried that project and was able to reproduce what you saw.

This can be fix by copying the following line into the highlighted field, which was looking for simpleBLEPeripheralStackFlashROM

    $PROJ_DIR$\..\..\Stack\CC2640\FlashROM\Exe\SPPBLEServerStackFlashROM.out

  • Yes, you should be able to flash the sensortag via the 10 pin debug connector connected to RF06 board.
  • Lee,thank you so much for the solution offered, il try it and get back to you .
  • Hi Zahid,

    Good to see your post~

I am facing some errors while compiling the 'SPPBLEServer' and 'spp_ble_client'.

Please suggest what I am missing. Thanks

    Errors are:

    SPPBLE_Client

    SPPBLE_Server:

  • Hi,

Can you try installing the patch in the default directory as specified in section 2.1.3 of this guide: www.ti.com/.../tidu997

    Best wishes
  • Yes, Its in the same directory; C:\ti\simplelink_SPP\ble_cc26xx_2_01_00_44423\Projects\ble...

I made a copy of simplelink and renamed it simplelink_SPP and copied all the patch files there.

    Plz suggest~ Thanks
  • I would try in the default simplelink directory to eliminate any path issues. Also did you follow the steps in section 2.5.3 of the SDG:

    Best wishes

  • I am following the same. Still not working.

well, the folder in the patch "Accessories and Components" are the same as in the original 'simplelink' directrory OR its also modified for Serial Port case?

what would happen If I just add the project folder in simplelink directory, while keeping the other as it is..?

    Please suggest~ Thanks
  • Dear Zahid,
Thanks for your help. I tried it again in a fresh manner and its workout this time. I tried it in the default directory (simplelink) while configured the probe setting to XDS100v3. Just want to know for my information that if I created a copy folder of same simplelink directory and import the project from it while updating all the project file paths, won't it work? OR the installed main directory of simplelink is only work. Please suggest me the logical reason for this.
    Thanks once again.
    Regards
  • Hello Mr. Zahid,

I tried to use the uart to BLE bridge patch files given and compiled the project in CCS. I faced the below errors which I am unable to get through.

Can you please help with this issue

    Thanks,

    Venkatesh

  • Hi,

Under Startup folder in project directory, can you make sure only one board file is selected. For example, if not using SensorTag board, exclude Board_SensorTag.c(right click on file -> Exclude from Build):

    Best wishes

    Thank you for the solution.
