TIDC-CC2650STK-SENSORTAG: New sensortag not turning on when using power button and no temp data

Part Number: TIDC-CC2650STK-SENSORTAG
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650STK, TMP007

Hello,

I just received a brand new CC2650STK sensortag today (BLE REV 1.5.1, FW rev 1.4.2).  Upon removing the battery plastic i was able to see the tag in the android Sensortag app and view the sensor data.  I tried to view the data again a few minutes later but the tag was no longer showing up in the app.  I tried the power button but nothing happened, so i removed the CR2032 battery and put it back in, and was able to see the tag.   Why does it not wake up from the power button?

Also, there is no temperature data being reported in the app, but the product documentation indicated that this should be available.

  • Hi Gordon,

Sorry to hear that you have encountered a problem with your new SensorTag. In order for us to investigate the issue further, could you please try the following:

    1. Insert the battery and observe that the green LED is blinking with a rate of appx. 1 Hz
    2. Connect the Android app and observe that the LED stops blinking.
    3. Leave it like this for a few minutes and verify that data collection has stopped.
    4. If the data have stopped appearing,
      1. check if the LED is off or has started blinking again
      2. press the power button for 3 seconds, now you should see the green LED blinking
      3. if all else fails, press both buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds. This will reset the device to factory settings

Could you please also check the version number of the Android app, and least but no last: what Android device are you using, and what is the Android version?

  • New SensorTags do not have the IR temperature sensor mounted, as the TMP007 part is no longed manufactured.
  • After connecting it to a friend's iPhone it seems to be working more consistently. As soon as I hit the power button it now shows up in the Android app. For reference, I've got a Nokia 6 (2017) running Android 7.1.2 and the Sensortag app is whatever the latest on the Google Play store is.
  • the product literature on www.ti.com/sensortag does not indicate this; the primary reason I purchased this was for testing temperature sensor data via BLE. I'm not receiving IR temperature or ambient temperature.
