LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: SMart-RF Studio setting TX Intervall isn´t posiible

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640, CC2652R

Hello,

I have to evaluate different BLE MCUs for a High Throughput Application , first I wanted to Test the PER if Packets are sent on a short Intervall, I used SmartRF Studio 7 v2.9.0, with the LAUNCHXXL-CC26X2R it is possible to set the TX Intervall to 5ms, but with the LAUNCHXXL-CC2640R2 it seems that it isn´t possible to set a shorter TX-Intervall than the Default one.

Receiving in a shorter Intervall is possible, Iwill attach a screenshot of my Tx settings.

Have I missed something?

Thanks

Christoph

  • If you start the the TX with the interval set to 5 ms it seems like it works. I only have 1 board available so I am not able to see if I receive all packets.
  • I checked it, it seems to work as long you have no Receiver.
    I checked it with a second LAUNCHXXL-CC2640R2 and a LAUNCHXXL-CC26X2R as Receiver.
With this additional Test it seems that the Processing of th ACK Packages is slowing it down.

  • Not sure I understand what you mean. There are no ACK'ing of the packets. The transmitter only transmit and the receiver receives. The packet interval in not the time from one packet is sent to the next one is sent, but a delay that is inserted between each iteration the firmware does when sending packets. on CC26x2 the PC tells the firmware that x packets should be sent and then the rest is controlled from the firmware, while on the CC2640, one and one packet is sent from the PC.
  • Thank you this hint was helpful, in this case the USB seems to be the bottleneck.
I'm now testing with two PCs, the Transmit Intervall is noticeable faster now. But still slower as with the CC2652R.
