CC2640: Is it possible to do "Over the Air" firmware updates without re certifying?

Part Number: CC2640
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BLE-STACK

Hi BLE team.

Is it possible to do "Over The Air" firmware updates without re certifying the product?

It would be possible to mess up the BLE communication after a firmware update...

  • Hi Anders,

The BLE-Stack OAD system is designed to be power loss fault tolerant which means that the device should always be able to fall back to a known good image in the event of a power loss or faulty image.

With respect to BT SIG certification, so long as the core stack itself or the board layout related to PHY is not changed (which is the case as TI does not release stack source code) then there is no need to re-certify.
