CC1101 vs CC1120 for Space Application

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101, CC1120, CC1190

Howdy,

My team is working on developing a  long range wireless communications system to communicate between a CubeSat and earth base station using the 915MHz ISM band.  We have narrowed the search down to either a CC1101 or CC1120 in conjunction with a CC1190.  New to the RF and wireless communication design and am looking for some recommendations on chipsets. Help from anyone with RF experience specifically in the space communication arena would be greatly appreciated.

We have selected the CC1120 with the CC1190 due to the better sensitivity and blocking ability due to being a narrow band chipset. Also, the CC1120 has more example documentation and schematics/layouts that provide critically needed support for our design. These reference materials are another large factor in the part selection. Other factors come into play such as the buffer size, output power, and current consumption.

Question: Is the selection of the CC1120+CC1190 combination a good decision for space communications over the CC1101 for the reasons provided? If not, is there a more suitable choice?

Regards,

Dakotah
