RF_N & RF_P pins are changed between two designs

Hello,

The CC2650EM-7ID shows the antenna output as follow:

While the design from documentation elsewhere shows the RF_P & RF_N pins reversed as shown below:

The question: Does it matter if these pins (RF_N & RF_P) are reversed. I presume that the CC2650EM-7ID is correct.

  • Hello,

I will confirm with the HW team, but the reference design for CC2650EM-7ID is correct.

    Best wishes
  • The CC2650EM -7ID is correct, but as you say, for the internal bias front end configuration, the RF pins can be reversed. The configuration we used in our ref design was due to space available on the PCB to get the layout optimal and symmetrical. If you look at the CC2650EM-5XD, the balun is inverted due to the RXTX pin and thus the space available for this configuration.

  • Thanks for your comment, Charlotte. Are you saying that for an internally biased, differential output, the schematic shown is correct AND the CC2650EM-7ID is also correct? If so, we intend to use the internally biased, differential output, so we will use the non-CC2650EM-7ID schematic.
  • Both solutions will work yes. I would recommend you to follow the CC2650-7ID because then you have a reference design layout that you can copy as well. If using the other schematic solution, make sure that the layout for the balun is symmetrical.
