Hi TI,

I have question about power consumption in BD/EDR and LE protocols in connecticable and discoverable mode. I am using Bluetopia stack 1.5 based on SPPLEDemo_Lite with MSP430F5229. Now the measured current from CC2564B is about 4mA(The idle state for CC2564B). Can I reduce this value by applying some optimization? Because I wanted to support both modes in portable bluetooth device.

Hi Anton,

When the SPPLEDemo_Lite app initializes, it enables LE_Advertising by default (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_TI_Bluetooth_Stak_SPPLEDemo_Lite_App#Initialize_the_SPP_server). And thus you see an average current of 4 mA (see attached). The advertsing should be disabled/stopped to get sleep current consumption.

Thank you for the attached image.

As I can see in datasheet for CC2564,the power consumption in "Advertising, discoverable" mode is about 121 uA. That`s why i don`t understand why disabling this function decrease the average current for 2 mA as a can see from the image. If I understand correctly, the most power consumption going from BD/EDR mode, because the BLE mode used a very small power for communicating. May I can disable some stack functional when pairing process is complete to reduce power consumption in BD/EDR mode.

Hi,

There is no BD/EDR functionality enabled on that graph. There is only BLE Adv at ~100ms interval. The value provided in the DS is for 1.28 sec interval and thus the difference. Yes, BLE adv can be stopped to get deep sleep current.

I understand about power consumption for BLE mode, and what about the power consumption in BD/EDR mode. Is where something like advertising that can be off or configure for a long time interval as in BLE mode?

Yes, there is a similar mode in Bluetooth called Inquiry/Discover process. You can either be in Inquiry Scan or Inquiry mode.
