CC3200 with FTDI FT232RL

I realy need to get thi to work...

i have made a custom board with CC3200 and want to flash it through the FT232RL

but when i start programming with CCS it throws the error:

Cortex_M4_0: GEL Output:
Memory Map Initialization Complete
Cortex_M4_0: Error connecting to the target: Frequency is out of range.

Pin configuration:

SOP0 - 0
SOP1 - 0
SOP2 - 1

FTDI TX - CC GPIO13
FTDI RX - CC GPIO12

Thats pretty much it...

please help!

Hi Rihards

I see the problem. So u only connect Tx to GPIO13 and RX to GPIO12.

Have u tried to connect RTS of FTDI to CTS of CC3200 and CTS of FTDI to RTS of CC3200?

By the way, even all these four pins are correctly connected, the custom board can be flashed only using FT232RL and it lacks of ability of debugging as it has no JTAG communication with CC3200.

Hi Rihards,

As rightly mentioned by Heng, you would need JTAG support for debugging.

With connection over UART you can program the serial flash. Please take a look at the below link for sample interfacing of FTDI (CC3100EMUBOOST) with CC3200 over UART processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC3200_Production_Line_Guide

but are those the default pins? how will the CC know that i have placed TX RX CTS and RTS on the pins that i have placed them?

are there any default pins to connect to for first time use?

i just wonder, how that MUX works, because in order to change the MUX i have to program ir first...

now CC pins are as follows:

U0RX - GPIO13
U0TX - GPIO12
U0CTS - GPIO0
U0RTS - GPIO6

also i guess i have to solder the flash memory on board right? because for debugging reasons i have put as less elements as possible right now, so the flash isnt on the board..

Hi,

Please follow the reference design of CC3200 Launchpad. You would require Serial flash in order to flash the binaries. And with the FTDI part that you are using you would not be able to do any debugging. You would not need to interface RTS/CTS here, and as described in the link above you would only need to interface UART RX, UART TX, SOP2 and nRESET.

did like you said.
first i tried to add RTS and CTS pins, nothing changed
than added flash on board, nothing changed
than wired CC3100emuboost to my bord, nothing changed, the same error...
i can program CC3200 launchpad with no problems, but cant do this unfortunetly...
is it possible that i havent soldered like external 40MHz crystal? would that be able to throw the error? because that is the only thing im not sure is correctly soldered, and to resolder... whell, that wont be easy...
any other posibilities, that would be wrong?
for now i dont need JTAG, but i have already ordered the JTAG emulator.

maybe i havent correctly configured the CCS target or something? im not realy good at programming, so im realy strugling here. right now im using the CC3200.ccxml
but i have only CC3200 and FT232RL, and now also flash memory

Hi,

Please uniflash to program the serial flash and not CCS, as you cannot debug with the current setup.

i guess i've tried everything now...

nothing works. i guess i have forgotten one or more pins to add to something...

anyway.

using uniflash i wanted to get the version number first, and this is what happens:

hmm.

i've found something strange. none of my crystals are working...

changed the crystal, thought maybe its broken, but no, nothing changed, no clock....

not the 32.768 kHz nor 40MHz one.

some of you maybe know the reason why would that be?

Unfortunetly i cant share all the schematic (work issues) but i can show the parts that matter in this case, but there is nothing unusual about that.

anyway here is the FTDI schematic:

differences are that i use different FTDI chip - FT232RL
I havent connected the JTAG and RESET pins to FTDI chip.
I dont have level shifters, but also i have only one power source, which is FTDI, through LDO (the same as launchpad).
what else...

when try to program i get the error, thats it.

I bought JTAG emulator XDS100V2 - it works, programmed and checked everything, its all good, but still i need to get the FTDI to work...

when i use uniflash, with this FTDI or with CC31XXEMUBOOST, i get errors, that i cant connect to the device. also i cant get an error:

i pres the reset button, and SOP(2:0) is set to 100

Hi HENG,

I designed my own CC3200 board incorporating the FT2232D chip for on board debugging and UART communication.

But I am unable to launch the Debug process because I do not know how to configure the FT2232D ,for enabling its jtag communication with the CC3200, and i have been tracked for weeks.

I'll feel very appreciated for having your response.

I have faced the same problem.I designed my custom CC3200 board with FT2232D for on board debugging.However,I do not know how to configure the FT2232D for enabling its jtag channel.
I can not launch the debugging process without JTAG support.
Would you give me some tricks for solving the problem?
