433 Mhz PCB antenna

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101

I am trying to design a PCB antenna on FR4 1.6mm thickness. Please help me in smallest size as possible. I am using CC1101 transceiver for 433Mhz.

  • Sai,

Have you looked at the antenna selection guide? This would be a good starting point for you.

Also, look at the antenna quick guide

  • Chatto,

I already looked this one. but i didn't find what i require.

I needed 433Mhz PCB trace antenna similar to 868 or 2.4Ghz.

Which should be as small as possible.

    Advance thanks

    Sai

  • Chatto,

The antenna size also provides the link range.   The 2.45 and 868/915MHz antenna have 1/4 wavelength radiators which allow maximum line of sight range and provides omni-directional pattern.   So you cannot have the same size the antenna will not work.   The physics to design this antenna is  speed of light  divided by lambda.  Where lambda is your operating freuency and the results is in meters.   You divide by 1/4 for quarter wavelength antenna size.   Now what remains is placing on PCB.  The PCB material decrease the length of this antenna by the velocity factor, which actually reduces the size by about 60%.    When you done the radiatro size for your board requires a length of 6.81 inches at 1/4 wavelength.  So no one can provide a design that is the size of the two you mention.

To decrease the antennas wavelength to 1/8 the size will mean signaficant reduction in the link fields.    If you want someone to respond with a solution for your deisgn you need to give them the link distance you are trying to achieve between the two antennas.   The link is proportional to height above ground and 1/distance separation of the two antennas.

You might want to read TI ISM-Band and Short Range Device Antennas (Rev. A)  to better undestand how the antennas work.

    Regards

  • All that is  OK  but where can I find the 433MHz PCB antenna I have read AN058 , DN031 both of them  provide information about the antenna design but I need information about  433MHz PCB antenna please provide me the complete PCB design for 433MHz .

The  application notes AN058 & DN031 are sufficient but does not provide me the information which I require for designing 433MHz PCB antenna.

    Waiting for your reply.
