CC430 Cannot gain high data-rates

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to use CC430F6147 evaluation kit to send data at 500 kbaud/sec and I'm facing problems getting high data rates.

In fact, the systems works fine for low data-rates like 10k baud/sec. However when I change the register settings using SmartRF Studio to have 250 or 500 kbaud/sec the same system does not work even if I set the output power to 10 dbm and place the circuits 1 inch from eachother.

As far as I have debugged, at 500 kbaud/sec, packets cannot be recognized. I have a packet counter at the receiver and it shows 5 instead of 120. On the other hand, sometimes the systems just works fine even at 500 kbaud/sec.

Is there anything that I am doing fundamental wrong or it's just how it is?

In receive the CC430 goes in saturation when the units are too close. Please check the RSSI and place the units so that the RSSI reading is lower than ~-30dBm to be on the safe side.

Increased AGCCTRL0.FILTER_LENGTH and setting AGCCTRL0.HYST_LEVEL = 3 seems to get rid of the "grey holes". Setting AGCCTRL0 = 0xF3 should hopefully show an improvement . Try also with AGCCTRL2 = 0xC6 instead of 0xC7 in combination with AGCCTRL0 = 0xF3.

The CC430 radio is the same as CC1101 so the above could be worth a try.
