TRF7970A: Crystal ESR Requirements

Hi,

In the TRF7970A DS, the requirement for the 13.56MHz crystal-ESR has been removed. How large can the crystal ESR be without negatively affecting the performance? Up to which ESR is the internal oscillator able to drive the crystal?

    Hello Gustaf,

    From our experiences, anything under 100 ohms ESR has been no problem and we have had customers using 60 or 80 ohms successfully which is why we removed the hard requirement of 50 ohms from the DS.

    We haven't tried higher than 100 ohms, so I wouldn't say we can 'recommend' that, but right now there isn't evidence one way or the other as to whether greater than 100 ohms would work.
