CCS/CC2640R2F: Communication between CC2640R2F and CC2541 through proprietary mode

Part Number: CC2640R2F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541,

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi TI Folks,

  Good day to you.

We are planning to use proprietary mode in 2 Mbps GFSK, the CC2541 is used for sender (TX), the CC2640R2F is used as receiver (RX):

Refer to datasheet, the Data rate and modulation format are as below:

CC2541:  2 Mbps, GFSK, 500-kHz deviation

                2 Mbps, GFSK, 320-kHz deviation,

CC2640R2F: 2-Mbps GFSK (Bluetooth 5) – RX --> Frequency error tolerance is -300 kHz ~ 500 kHz

Please advise above plan workable or not?

1. In this communication application, Do both CC2541's 500-kHz and 320-kHz deviation be workable with CC2640R2F?

2. Refer to User's Guide of CC2541 and CC2640R2F: The data package is difference in below:

Please share the more information for this kind of application, and share the example project / code if have.

Best regards

Jiang WeiJi

  • Hello,

Backward compatibility of CC2640R2F with CC2541 proprietary modes has not be tested. We are looking into this and will provide feedback next week.

  • Hello SVS,

      Good day to you.

May I know is there any update information for my question?

    Best regards

  • Hello,

The modulation at 2mbps with 500KHz deviation is compatible. However, on CC2640R2, the implementation is in accordance with BLE5 standard. Hence the packet format is different by default between the two devices. We still do not have a conclusion on whether it is possible to send compatible packets between the two devices. Will update the post as soon as we have the answer (within a week). Sorry for the delay.

    Regards,
  • Thank you for your reply. I didn't read carefully the title of the thread and maybe I'm off topic.
Explaining better my question, I need to have a radio link between two CC2640R2F with a very high throughput using a low level protocol like proprietary.
I would like to use the proprietary protocol to maintain back compatibility with an old project, but i could use another solution if it could garantee better performance.
I tried to use BLE5 radio command but I didn't find any documentation about.

    Thank you again

    Regards

  • Hi Viviani,

      Good day to you.

      Thanks your reply.

Let me summary my question in below again:

I would like to use the proprietary protocol to maintain back compatibility with an old project:

    1. In the old project both transmitter and receiver are using CC2541 with proprietary protocol.

    2. Now We are going to re-design the receiver only, and considering the CC2640R2F.

I can't find any document and example project information how do CC2640R2F and CC2541 communicate in proprietary protocol. Please advise.

      Expecting your quickly reply.

    Best regards
