CC1310: How to improve an CollectorSensor-based use case

Hi,

I am using some CC1310 LaunchPads to make a demo.

The demo is based on Collector/Sensor examples running in long range mode, non-beacon. The collector will poll all the sensors every 10 sec. Data size is 512byte.

When they are in good condition (ie. LOS), the demo runs well. Error rate is just less than 1%. But when I keep them at different floors in a building, the error rate turns to higher than 30%.

I'd like to ask what are the methods to improve the situation in terms of both FW and HW.

Looks like you are running the demo in case of 30% at the edge of the range. You can use the 5kbps long range more for greater coverage. Please refer to the documentation on how to configure the example applications for that: software-dl.ti.com/.../example-applications.html

Specifically look at the point 2 on how to set the PHYId for the 5kbps data rate.

Thanks for your advice.
Actually, I did follow the doc to use the 5kbps long range mode. That was the test result for long range mode as I mentioned.
What else can I do in terms of FW?

1. I would suggest using the whip antenna instead of PCB which is more efficient and more towards the omni directional radiation pattern.
2. Are you using the 14dB output power with boostmode enabled? (You need to set the transmit power to 14dB in the config.h file and set CCFG_FORCE_VDDR_HH = 1 in the ccfg.c file.)
3. Do you have both LCD and UART enabled? for display and logging when doing this test?

Suyash,

1. Yes. That can be an option. How about adding CC1190 and keep the PCB antenna?

2. Yes, I did.

3. From the log file, I see that the Sensors that are far from the Collector couldn't get the ACK from the Collector. And they keeps asking every 200ms (perhaps this is fixed inside the stack). This causes the Collector sometimes not able to send ACK to other Sensors including the ones which are very near. May I send you the log file via email for further discussion?
