Active WIFI tag transmitting on 802.11 for RTLS application

Hi Prem,

We are able to support RTLS implementation using either CC3100 or CC3200.

This can be quite easily achieved using our Transceiver mode, enabling the application to send 802.11 packets, on any 802.11 channel and in any 802.11 rate.
The application can also control the entire packet structure, basically, building its' own packets.

Hi Prem,

Given your above information, I would say yes the CC3100/CC3200 could fill this role. For a definitive answer, we woul need to know more details about the system and what communication protocol the CC3200/CC3100 would have to follow.

Thanks for the reply and info - much appreciated.

We have existing wireless routers with our own firmware that detects MAC addresses on packets sent from mobile phones. We want to reuse that infrastructure for asset and people tracking, where tags are used for that purpose. So the tags should transmit on a compatible 802.11 frequency so that our routers pick up the signal and then send that to our server for triangulation (just as it does now for mobile phones). The use case would be similar to Ekahau or Navizon. Does that help?

Additionally, it would be good if you could recommend a supplier to assemble the tag itself.

Hi Prem,

What sort of connection is required to the routers? Its is encrypted? If the router can use any packet from the station, then I suppose the beacon responses would be sufficient and simply connecting to the AP would be enough.
