CC3220: Removing J11 from LP 3220 Ref. design

Hello!

My design based on LP 3220 Ref. design, but i do not need external antenna, and i want to remove J11, used in LP 3220 Ref. design.

My plan:

a. Remove J11

b. Connect R40 to L3 directly

c. Change C34 value from 0.5 pF to 1 pF

Questions:

1.Is my plan correct?

2. To reduce the cost of the device, can i also replace Resistors with 0 ohm value (R36, R39, R40, R43, R44) with a direct trace?

Hi,

1 . A & B can be done with no adverse effect. However L3 and C32 are part of the matching network and these component value varies depending on your stack up, trace width, parasitics etc. The expectation is that the customer tunes the network for optimal RF performance after PCB manufacture.

2. You can remove the 0 ohm resistor is you determine that they are not needed for your application.

Thank you for your answer!
Can you give me the typical values (or range) for L3 and C32 to simplify my calibration process? My spectrum analizer can reach only 2.1 Ghz, so i can measure 2.4 Ghz signal strength only by rssi.

Hi,

You need to use a network analyzer for the impedance matching. Caps usually in pF and inductors in nH.
You could probably use measure the RSSI but i am not sure how effective that is and it could be a more tedious process.
