Continuous TX not transmitting continuously wl18xx

Thank you Dotan. Yes that was it, I had Page Scan enabled by default.  Should I have it disabled for continuous Rx as well?

The Tx is not still continuous. Once I disabled the Page Scan, I can see the continuous wave. But it stops always at random times. I have seen it stopping between 8seconds to 1 Minute. Is there any way to make sure it transmits at least for a particular period of time?

That is strange.

Have you run the below command to disable the Inquiry Scan/Page Scan

"Send_HCI_Write_Scan_Enable 0x00".  IN HCITOOL format "hcitool cmd 0x03 0x001a 0x00" 

and also try running the continuous TX command 3-4 time and see if it helps, If you are not getting continuous transmission when you run it for the first time.

I have been using hciconfig to disable scans

"sudo hciconfig hci0 noscan"

I tried

"hcitool cmd 0x03 0x001a 0x00"
 as you suggested, the result is still the same. Following are the rough timings is stayed active for when run back to back

8Sec, 30Sec, 1 min, 1 min, 40sec,40s, 40s, 50s

Do I have to put the chip in a testmode or something?

1. download the SP.

2. Run hcitool cmd 0x03 0x001a 0x00

3. Run hcitool cmd 0x3f 0x01fb 0x01 0xff 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x01

4. Run hcitool cmd 0x3f 0x01ca 0x62 0x09 0x01 0x00 0x07 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00

Note : It is preferred to do this test conducted rather than radiated to avoid interference.

It is required to place the device under test mode. Anyway I don't think it will take much time to try it out, It is worth trying.

Note: We have not placed the device in test mode while executing the test.

                     I tried steps 2-4. The Tx signal still stops. I have connected the spectrum analyzer straight to the BT antenna connector. Apart from the continuous Tx, everything else seems to be working fine. I can scan for near by devices, make service level connections etc all fine.

a) Do I have to download any special package (mentioned in step 1)?

b) Can you please let me know how to put the chip in test mode (or point me to a link)?

Hi,

Yes you need to download the service pack(Init script), it is already mentioned in the RF testing wiki page you are referring http://wiki.tiprocessors.com/index.php/WL18xx_Bluetooth_RF_Testing

You can get the Service pack from https://github.com/TI-ECS/bt-firmware
If you are using a WL183x then the appropriate script is "TIInit_11.8.32.bts", if you are using a WL185x then the appropriate script is "TIInit_12.8.32.bts"

Please see the section "BT SIG RF Testmode" in the RF testing wiki page, to place the chip in test mode

I have already provide you the git link from whhere you can get the init script. 

Download the file as RAW data.

Forgive my ignorance. But I could see only *.bts files in there. I thought there might be a shell/python script.

Aren't they firmware files? I have a file in /lib/firmware/TIInit_11.8.32.bts (But it seems to be different). Or do I just have to replace the one in /lib/firmware/TIInit_11.8.32.bts with the one in git link you gave me?

I tried replacing the file I had in /lib/firmware/TIInit_11.8.32.bts with the one in the git. But the wave stops after some time.

It is really strange that he TX is stopping.  

Just to make sure that you are able successfully load the SP. Perform inquiry and connect to the devices after downloaded the SP?

If the SP is downloaded Successfully, you should not have any problem.

Have you tried placing the DUT in RF SIG mode and then scan and connect to the DUT, from the tester. after this performing the TX test.

Yes the SP is getting loaded successfully.  Without the SP, the driver would fail to load hci0 interface. Yes I tried SIG mode as well.

I guess, I shall write a script which loops the command every 1 sec and send it to the test centre.
