WL1831MOD: Support for Bluetooth Core 4.2

Part Number: WL1831MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1831, WL18XX-BT-SP

Hi,

I need to understand if it is possible to support Bluetooth Core 4.2 under Android6.0 with WiLink1831 wifi+BT module.

I start loading the last firmware TIInit_11.8.32.bts (Service Pack 3.9) and explore the Bluetooth Core version the BT module announce.

I connected an external device (Samsung Galaxy Tab2) and captured hci traffic through btsnoop_hci.log .

Analyzing that data with Wireshark I found the line "Rcvd Read Remote Ver Info Complete" and inside it I decode the data:  "LMP Version: 4.1 (0x07)"

Does that means that my wl1831 mod support only Bluetooth Core 4.1 ?  I cant find newer  TIInit_11.8.32.bts, and if I look inside "WL18xx BT Service Pack 3.9" Release Notes, I can't' find reference to Bluetooth Core 4.2 support. I found just reference to the introduction of Bluetooth Core 4.1, as in my module announce...

If I check the announce coming from my Galaxy Tab2 I can find the code 0x08 => Bluetooth Core 4.2

Searching inside TI site I can found the stack to support Bluetooth Core 4.2 with Bluetopia:

     www.ti.com/.../ti-bt-4-2-stack-linux-addon

but I can't understand how that stack can support 4.2 standard If the module announce not to support it ...

Thanks in advance

Regards Giuseppe
