Linux/WL1837MOD: Java Interface Library Recommendations?

Hello,

I'm looking for recommendations for what library to use to interface Java application software to the BlueZ 5-based Bluetooth stack running below the application. We use the Serial Port Profile (SPP) to connect an Android application to our device running an embedded Linux environment (running on the A15s from the TI AM5728 SoC). 

Initial attempts were made using BlueCove but we're running into issues; BlueCove does not appear to be an active project, support is limited, and support for BlueZ 5 appears to be lacking.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
