Linux/PROCESSOR-SDK-AM335X: existing image w/ working WLAN for BeagleBoard Black.

Does anyone have an SD card image with a working WLAN on Beagleboard Black ? 

If so, can you post it somewhere for me to download and test ? 

I am trying to test some basic user-level wireless features, I don't need the full SDK (and it's complexity) right now. 

(yes i've tried full SDK - but included images don't have WLAN support, and applying the patches and such - despite methodically following instructions (link) - WLAN still fails, and I'd rather not burn another 3 weeks on merely getting WLAN to work)

    There is no 'cape' - the wlan chip is on-board the beaglebone black.

    I learned this not in the SDK/install instructions, but on this forum post (https:/e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/wilink_wifi_bluetooth/f/307/t/613217?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=beaglebone%20black%20wireless)

    " beaglebone patches on wiki are for beaglebone black board with Element 14 WL1837MOD cape .For beaglebone black wireless you don't need to apply these patches."

  • I see.. so, you are using beagle bone black wireless, right?

  • Indeed ! The Beagle Bone Black Wireless is what we were recommended to use, and what we've been working with.

    I've since got past the 'unknown symbols' and feel strongly the last remaining step is indeed the DTS/device tree. I've tried variations from this post, and while I can load the (patched) modules, nothing actually binds to the hardware. (see details in my other post

    So - yes, an image would still help (subject of this page/post) !

    but so would explicit instructions for device tree update. (subject of this other post, with more detail.)

  • I briefly tried with the attached DTB file on BBBW with TISDK4.01 and it went ok.. Please copy this DTB to the /boot folder in rootfs..

    I copied the attachd DTB into /boot.

    I then manually inserted all wireless kernel and modules.

    dmesg gives no errors.
    yet there is no wlan0.

  • The SDCARD with TISDK is a bit too fat (4GB).. Let me see, how I can share it to you..

    I would like you to try one more thing..
    It seems, your device is picking 'AM335xBeagleBoneBlack' dtb, not the the 'BeagleBoneBlackWireless' dtb.. You can do the following..
    It appears the name is spelled correctly.. rename it to 'am335x-boneblack-wireless.dtb'. If, it still does not pick the right dtb file.. Rename 'am335x-boneblack.dtb' to some thing else and make a symbolic link between 'am335x-boneblack.dtb' to 'am335x-boneblack-wireless.dtb'..

    We, want to make sure, 'cat /proc/device-tree/model' shows bone black wireless..

  • Nice work, sir ! That was the trick. I had to symlink 'am335x-boneblack.dtb' to 'am335x-boneblack-wireless.dtb'.

    and I don't have to manually load modules, to get a wlan0.
