Linux/WL1837MOD: Need updated compat-wl18xx

What kernel version are you using?

In case you are using a new kernel (e.g. >=4.9) you don't need compat.
You can just build the drivers that are in tree and use them with the latest firmware.

Hi Eyal,

I am using kernel version 3.0.35.
I am facing the issue with the latest firmware.it gives me this error

root@freescale /media/mmcblk0p1/default_modules$ insmod wl18xx.ko
root@freescale /media/mmcblk0p1/default_modules$ wlcore: ERROR configuration binary file size is wrong, expected 1221 got 1229


My last firmware has 1221 bytes but the latest firmware has 1229 bytes. I have seen many post regarding this error, They are asking to copying wl18xx-conf-default.bin to /lib/firmware/ti-connectivity/wl18xx-conf.bin but still i have found the same error.

Please Help.

What version are you trying to build?
You should be building latest (R8.7_SP3).

If you are updating the modules you would also need to update wlconf, wl18xx_fw etc.

And also using the old modules.we are not updating the modules.

There is no easy path here.

What is the reason you are upgrading you software at this point? What are you using today?

In practice, if you intend to update your software, you have to move to a newer release (R8.7_SP3) in case you also need to have a solution for WPA2 crack.

You can't upgrade the firmware (wl18xx-fw-4.bin) only without moving to newer drivers as the APIs have changed between the kernel (driver modules) and the firmware.

You would have to update your drivers modules, firmware, wl18xx-conf.bin, wpa_supplicant newer one.

We have already raised this issue that our device is not connected in London event with 5Ghz AP While it's connected in our lab successfully with 5Ghz AP.We have tested with every scenario and getting connected in our lab.

While it is advised to upgrade from R8.5 to the latest, I still don't believe the issue is related to it.
If you are able to use t%hz in your lab using the same channel that this AP in London is set to, it should work there as well.
I suggest you verify which channel they use in London (Even Ask them for an air sniffer showing the beacons from this AP) and verify it on your setup.

Our customer send us the channels on which AP is set.These are the channels:

36,40,44,48,56,60,64,100,108,112,128,136,140

and I have check the frequencies on above channels ,these frequencies are present in GB and US both regions.SO it should work in London also.But we are not able to understand why it does not work.

Note they are using Ruckus APs.

There is nothing specific about these channels.

We are not familiar with this specific brand of AP, but I suggest you ask them to try another AP using the same channel that is not working for them now and see if the issue is specific to it.

It could be an issue with the AP itself, its firmware version or many other factors.

I am afraid that without seeing a wifi air sniffer log there is not much you can figure out from this description.

After few more testing we noticed that it can be range issue also.so we are trying to test with few more antennas.
