Serial output from CC2650 sensortag via Debugger DevPack

Basically my problem is that I am getting no serial output from the cc2650 sensortag when connecting using the Debugger DevPack. Wondering if anyone have tried this successfully, or have any hints.

In Windows7 I see the USB/debugger come up as two COM ports (Application/User UART, and Auxiliary Data Port), but I am getting no output when listening to these ports with 115200/8/N/1. I am also able to reach the node and program it via the Flash Programmer 2 - so the connection seems to be fine. Tried mainly with the cc26xx-demo (I see frames being TXed in capture so I know the SW is running). I get same silence when trying in linux. I am using the drivers which were installed in the SmartRF Tools directory when installing latest Flash Programmer 2.

Andreas,
There is a HW issue on the debug devpack, the UART TX and RX are swapped. This has been fixed in the latest version.

To continue testing with the HW you have you could swap the TX/RX pins in SW on the CC26xx. I can give further guidance on this if needed, which SW package are you using?

Oh, that explains. I am using bleeding edge Contiki with TI cc26xx port.

Hello,

The current bleeding edge Contiki is configured to use the SmartRF06EB as UART, vi athe JTAG cable hack described on wiki. To use the CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER:

You can build CC26xx-web-demo and download it to CC2650STK using CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGERS. Open virtual COM port which is simulated by CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGERS on your PC and you should see UART output.

it is as followes:

If you run cc26xx-web-demo on SensorTag, you can connect to its web page to read sensor data.

Make sure you use the following UART pins in /platform/srf06-cc26xx/sensortag/board.h and you are able to use printf.

UART pins? How to do so if I am using The Debugger DevPack (is a small form-factor XDS110 debugger) and it's connect via USB to the computer?

You can find COM port of XDS110 Class Application/User UART in device manager.

Then, you can use any COM port tool like teraterm to open the COM port for communication.

run lsusb while devPack is connected to your PC with usb cable.

I am not able right now to do it, because the devPack is in my work, but I did it thousand times yesterday and it always show sthe device with ID and Vendor, which was equal of someone else that posted online. That's good, right? Thanks for your help Igor!

If it's possible, I would suggest you to find a Window PC and make sure you can get UART messages on COM port tool first.

Hey! Thank you very much for your kind help! Now I'm able to read the serial in linux and windows, it was compilation issues! Sorry!

Another question: how could I flash the device in linux? As read, I found out that Uniflash (I am using version 3.4) is an option, but it freezes and I load the .bin image. Could you help me?

Hi. I finally tried to upload it via UNIFLASH in Linux.

At the first attempt I got some errors saying it tried to write in protected memory and the uploaded failed.

Now the sensortag is not working anymore. After this first attempt I returned to FLASH PROGRAMMER in Windows and it seems it's bricked. I get the message "Debug interface is locked. Aborting action. Only forced mass erase is possible". I forced mass erase many times, it runs sucessfully but when I try to upload the .bin image I get always the same "locked" problem. Could you help me please?

Do you have another CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER? If yes, try to connect your CC2650STK to another CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER and see if it works.

Yes, I have another CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER. I got the same problem using another one and I can use this degguer normally wirh another sensortag.

I've seen that it's possible to restore the stock firware of the XDS110 debugger directly via command terminal. It's not possible to do so for the CC2650 senstortag?
It's hard for me wait the exchanging time and I really need to get this to work.

Maybe you can try to use CC2650 back door boot loader to do something. Try to refer to www.ti.com/.../swra466a.pdf.
