Hi,

I have seen that TI is mentioned as a contributor to OpenThread, http://openthread.github.io/openthread/ .

I'm currently evaluating a 6LoWPAN network with TI CC2650 devices running Contiki OS and CETIC 6LBR as border router.

I would be very interresting to test OpenThread in this setup.

Are there any work ongoing to implement CC26xx drivers that support the OpenThread platform APIs?

And do you know if there's any work ongoing to integrate Thread support in Contiki?

Hi,

thanks for your interest in OpenThread and on our devices.

Yes, TI is contributing to OpenThread. Every contribution TI will make in regards to Thread will be on the OpenThread repository.

We are currently looking into what OpenThread functionalities can be enabled on the portfolio of our 15.4 wireless MCUs (ie CC253x and CC26xx family).

What I can say is that though technically CC2530- 8051 platform could be enabled too, we are most definitely going to focus our attention towards Cortex-M core devices (ie CC2538 and CC26xx).

I'm definitely interested in this too. It'd be great if sample code is made available so it's easy for a hobbyist to grab a CC2560 launchpad and easily create a device that can slot into a Nest-based home mesh network.

Thanks. I'll contact my local representative, which I assume is just via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.

I wasn't sure whether local TI representatives are geared more towards helping your corporate customers get products to market rather than assisting hobbyists. I've always found TI to be supportive, but I didn't want to be bothering an account manager who's expected to be managing large accounts.

I'm looking to find an interesting way to control the lighting in my workshop and other home automation projects. I'm thinking about swapping my Tado smart thermostat for a Nest if it means I can easily add a CC2650 Launchpad into the OpenThread/6LoWPAN network to prototype something. If it's not practical then I may go CC3200 or ZigBee instead.

According to my understanding and observation, CC2650 running OpenThread is still far far away from reality. I would suggest you to use CC3200 or Zigbee instead.

You can download Z-Stack Home 1.2.2a from and there are examples for CC2650 to run Zigbee protocol. For Running Contiki on CC2650, you can refer to

I checked Contiki examples link, but it doesn't say anything about Zigbee. Do you mean I shoud use Z-Stack over Contiki?

ZigBee and 6LoWPAN are both mesh networks but they are different. Use Z-stack for ZigBee or use Contiki for 6LoWPAN.

You cannot use Z-Stack over Contiki. They are different protocol.

OK, but I can use Zigbee over Contiki? or it's just 6LoWPAN?

Contiki is 6LowPAN protocol but Z-Stack Zigbee is not. You cannot run Zigbee on Contiki.
