Hi,

I wanted to know how I could reduce the time it takes for the CC253 to connect to a network. I have programmed my device to scan all the channels before pairing using the code {DDEFAULT_CHANLIST=MAX_CHANNELS_24GHZ}. However this takes a minimum of 30 seconds. How can I reduce this time to 10 seconds?

Hi Jack,

Your device would join much faster if you had it scan for networks on fewer channels. Do you have control over the network channel for your application?

Hi. The channels I want to scan for are specifically 14, 15, 19, 20, 24. However I don't know how to set it up for all these channels. How can I do this?

The channel list is defined as a bitmask, so you can form your bitmask like this (these values taken from f8wConfig.cfg):

DDEFAULT_CHANLIST = 0x00004000 | 0x00008000 | 0x00080000 | 0x00100000 | 0x01000000; // channels: 14 | 15 | 19 | 20 | 24

or just the result of the ORing:

DDEFAULT_CHANLIST = 0x0118C000; // channels: 14 | 15 | 19 | 20 | 24

Thanks. It worked. I've also noticed another problem which is whenever the CC2530 connects to a network, the coordinator doesn't always know until later. Is there anyway to make the CC2530 send more signals to the coordinator, notifying it that it has been connected?

I'm not sure I understand, can you elaborate? It isn't really possible for a device to join a network unless the Coordinator is notified in some capacity, whether that means a device that joins directly through the coordinator or a device that joins through an intermediate Router which sends a notification to the Coordinator.

I got it fixed. Don't worry about it. Anyways, so besides just looking for those 5 channels, are there any possible ways to decrease the time it takes for the device to connect to a network?

Try to define NUM_DISC_ATTEMPTS as 0 in ZDApp.h
