Hello.

I'm trying to run ZStack SampleLight/SampleSwitch example.

I managed to compile and download applications without any error or warning, but I stuck with another problem: I can't toggle light remotely.

The sequence of my actions are:

1) download applications on my boards - SampleLight on the first and SampleSwitch on the second;

2) on the first board (SampleLight) I go to "Commission" menu and press "Select" button. Led2, Led3 and Led4 start blinking accordingly to user's guide;

3) on the second board (SampleSwitch) I go to "Commission" menu and press "Select" button too;

Results of actions 1-3 are shown of the attached photos.

4) then on the second board (SampleSwitch) I go to "app menu", where I select "Toggle light", but LED1 on the first board don't blinks.

My tools and stack are:

1) two SmartRF06 boards with CC2538EM 1.2;

2) IAR 8.11.1;

3) ZStack Z-Stack 3.0.1.

I didn't modify ZStack examples.

Try to refer to Z-Stack 3.0 Sample Application User's Guide.pdf under document folder.

I did all accordingly to this document, chapter 7 Quick Start Guide, pp 30-31

I read it too.
It says the same, except erasing the flash memory before downloading.
I have tried it, result is the same.

Try to setup sniffer to check what happens over the air.

Before starting capture I've changed channel to 26 and PAN to 0x561E.

According to your sniffer log, your device joins coordinator and leave a while later. Do you use find and binding to bind SampleSwitch and SampleLight?

Yes, Finding+Binding is enabled on both devices, on coordinator and on end point.

No, I didn't.
This option was enabled by default.

I have to press "select" button to start commissioning, but option "Finding+Binding" is enabled by default.

This oprion is set in the constant DEFAULT_COMISSIONING_MODE

#define DEFAULT_COMISSIONING_MODE (BDB_COMMISSIONING_MODE_NWK_STEERING | BDB_COMMISSIONING_MODE_NWK_FORMATION | BDB_COMMISSIONING_MODE_FINDING_BINDING)

which is defined in file zcl_sampleapps_ui.c at line 323

Also if I press "Select" button on screen shown above(e2e.ti.com/.../369.png) word "enabled" changes to "disabled".

When you go to "app menu" and select "Toggle light", do you press SELECT button to send toggle command?

I do the same test on my CC2538DK with SampleLight and SampleSwitch. It works fine. I only go to commission and press select. After ZED joins ZC, I can toggle the LED1. I suggest you to clear everything and do the test from scratch again.

I tried it by installing IAR and ZStack on another PC, but it didn't help.

Actions sequence is:

May be TI employee can help?

In these two sniffer logs, they are similar to previous one. Your device joins and leave. I attach my binary for your test. You can download them to your CC2538DK to test again.

I've managed to make it working!

Sample Application User's Guide says (page 5):

There are three ways to power SmartRF06EB; batteries, USB bus and external power supply.

So I powered my boards via 3.5V DC source.

But after I powered my boards via USB all worked!

So I have one more question: what makes these power modes to be so different?

Make sure you have enough current drive when using 3.5V DC.

I powered with about 0.05 A 3.5 V DC for two boards.
Is is enough?
What is maximum possible current for board if I power it from DC source (max voltage is 3.6 V - it's written on the board)?

No, it’s not enough. I suppose you have to have 100 ms @3.3V for each.

Wow, that is super weird, thanks for following up with your solution. The actual issue with your device was that after joining the network, it was not initiating the TC Link Key update procedure that is mandatory for all joining Zigbee 3.0 devices, and because of that the Coordinator was sending it a Leave request shortly afterward. Why it was not initiating the TC Link Key update is very strange though.

Are you able to consistently have the devices join the network/etc now that you have powered them sufficiently? I just want confirmation that there is some sort of connection between insufficient power and the TC Link Key update procedure failing to start so I can look into the right places in the code.

I powered up boards with current limit 0.5A and 3.5 V DC, but their behaviour is the same as earlier.

Moreover even if I power from the DC source only one device I can't run the example properly.

If I power coordinator by DC I cannot join network at all.

If I power end device by DC I'm able to join network but I cannot toggle light.

Here your are.

Blask wire is ground, red wire is supply.

Switch S502 is in "BAT" position.

There is a regulator bypass jumper next to DC input. Do you have jumper close or you leave it open?
