TLV320ADC3140: 4-Channel application with direct connection to a TAS6424

Part Number: TLV320ADC3140
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS6424-Q1, , TMS320C6748

Hello,

I want to combine a ADC out of the TLV320ADC-Family with a class-d amplifier out of the TAS64-Familiy. For this purpose I want to use the TLV320ADC3140 or similar for signal input and processing. As power stage I want to use the TAS64xx-Familie, e.g. TAS6424-Q1. In the basic version I want to connect them directly by I2S or TDM,.... for a 4-Channel application.
My question I would like to ask: Is it possible to connect the TLV320ADC3140 direct with the TAS64xx by TDM, I2S for this 4-Channel application?

Thanks in Advance!

Martin

  • Hi Martin,

The ASI interface of the TLV320ADC3140 is extremely flexible so won't be any problems interfacing it with whatever device you choose. The device does include an AGC, biquad filters for each channel, and channel mixing if you'd like to do this. The DSP in the device is fixed function and not openly programmable though so if you are looking to do more in depth signal processing you may consider including a DSP in your system.

  • Hi Zak,

Thank you very much for your fast response. In the basic design we do not plan to do enhanced signal manipulation. I only want to do some eq stuff (like the analog BD37532). Unfortunately I am currently at the beginning with signal processing. Later I want to enhance the project with an optional DSP. Do you have an suggest for a DSP and maybe some tutorial for signal processing?

    Best regards,

    Martin

  • Hey Martin,

In that case the ADC3140 supports up to 3 independent biquad filters per channel that can be used for simple EQ! I'm not an expert in DSPs, but I know that we have developed a lot of our own demos with the C6000 family of DSPs. We have used TMS320C6748 specifically, but the right DSP will depend on your system needs.

    Best,

    Zak
