ADS1219: Design review, advice please!

Part Number: ADS1219

Tool/software:

Hello all,

I need to read Voltage and Current from a device, very precise measurements and I decided to select the ADS1219. Following some reference designs and forum posts, I am not 100% sure if I need tto use a voltage follower or not at all. Neitther if tthe external ref. voltage is okay with 2.5v or 2.048v. I also need to separatet grounds from the measurement side and ucontroller side.

Would you mind to ttake a look to tthe schematic and give some advice of the changes needed?

Tthank you in advance!

  • Hi Oriol,

if tthe external ref. voltage is okay with 2.5v or 2.048v.

Using an external reference of 2.5V or 2.048V is okay as these are within the acceptable range of the ADC:

The different reference values would simply change weather you can read voltages up to 2.5V or 2.048V, and change the LSB value accordingly:

You could also use the ADC's internal voltage reference.

One thing we typically recommend is to use Anti-aliasing filters at the inputs of the ADC. From section 9.1.4 of the data sheet:

I am not 100% sure if I need tto use a voltage follower or not

As you can see from the block diagram, using an amplifier to the inputs of the ADC should be okay

I would reach out to the amplifier team for additional questions on this part of your circuit.

    Best Regards,

    Angel
