My customer use TCAN4550-Q1 in their project. Now customer have two questions:

1.Is there an internal current limit on the CAN line of TCAN4550? What is the maximum current?

2.The customer mainly wants to evaluate: Is it feasible to use the Vccout of TCAN4550 from the anchor point to power CC2642/CC2340? Are there any risks? Does the customer provide specific parameters?


Bluetooth is an application of connect Monitor, and the current is about 10mA.

    The current will be less than the max specifications for the Dominant and Recessive bits when the driver is active.

    The CAN Receiver's input resistance is also specified which will limit current flowing through the CANH and CANL pins.

    The TCAN4550-Q1 has an internal 5V LDO that supplies the CAN FD transceiver and controller, but can also source up to 70mA of current to an external circuit such as an MCU.  As long as the external load is less than 70mA, then there is OK to use the VCCOUT to power the CC2642/CC2340.

    However, when there is a bus fault on the CAN bus, there will be a large current draw from the 5V LDO which may reduce the voltage on the VCCOUT pin and could result in an under-voltage condition during this fault condition.
