[FAQ] ISOUSB111: Can I use ISOUSB111 as a replacement device for ADuM3160 / ADuM4160?

Part Number: ISOUSB111

Can I use ISOUSB111 as a replacement device for ADuM3160 / ADuM4160?

  • ISOUSB111 can be used as a replacement device for ADuM3160 / ADuM4160 in the following two ways.

    1. Case 1: Simple BOM change:
      1. If 24Ω resistors (highlighted in image below from ADuM3160 datasheet) are used in series with UD-, UD+, DD- and DD+ pins in schematic of ADuM3160 / ADuM4160, then replace them with 0Ω resistors while replacing ADuM3160 / ADuM4160 with ISOUSB111. These 24Ω resistors are already integrated in ISOUSB111 and hence, are not needed in schematic.
    1. Case 2:  Do not prefer changing resistors:
      1. Replace ADuM3160 / ADuM4160 with ISOUSB111.
      2. Test upstream/downstream eye diagrams with ISOUSB111 on ADuM3160 / ADuM4160 schematic for series resistors of values 24Ω, 12Ω and 0Ω.
      3. Test ADI eye diagrams with 12Ω resistors (intermediate resistor value).
      4. Based on the results, decide to use either 24Ω resistors or 12Ω resistors for both ISOUSB111 and ADuM3160 / ADuM4160. This enables using ISOUSB111 in ADuM3160 / ADuM4160 design without any other component change.
