[FAQ] What does the '7' or '7R' the end of TM4C123x part numbers signify?

Many TM4C123x part numbers have options that include a '7' or a '7R' the end of the part.

What is the difference between devices with the '7' at the end and devices which have the '7' omitted?

What does the 'R' designate differently?

Examples:

  • TM4C123GH6PMI7 vs TM4C123GH6PMI
  • TM4C123GH6PMI7R vs TM4C123GH6PMIR
  • TM4C123GH6PMT7 vs TM4C123GH6PMT
  • TM4C123GH6PMT7R vs TM4C123GH6PMTR
  • What is the difference between devices with the '7' at the end and devices which have the '7' omitted?

TM4C123x devices that have a ‘7’ after the package type and temperature designators are Revision 7 silicon.

If the ‘7’ is excluded, then the device is Revision 6 silicon.

The key difference between Revision 6 and Revision 7 is with various EEPROM errata items. If the EEPROM is not used in an application, then the devices are functionally equivalent. If the EEPROM is used, then changing devices likely will require software changes to account for the errata items which were addressed and the new, minor items that resulted from the fixes in Revision 7. In such a case, the EEPROM errata would need to be reviewed in detail to understand the impact of the swap. For certain applications that use EEPROM with Revision 7 silicon, it may not be feasible to use Revision 6 silicon instead.

What does the 'R' designate differently?

The R is simply a packing designator to indicate the devices will be shipped in Tape & Reel. The omission of the 'R' means the devices will ship in Trays.

For reference, a full part decoder is offered in all device datasheets in Package Information Appendix.
