AM2432: MAC Address for switch mode

Hi Expert,

I need to clarify who needs to provide MAC Address values in the final product in which we are using ICSS EMAC with switch mode. This is a fundamental question but I would like to confirm this with you.

I assumed that our product could use MAC address provided by TI since we are using TI PHY chip, DP83826E, however, there seems to be a different choice from my thought. Could you please clarify this?

FYI, This is our test code to assign a test Mac address to ICSSEmacParams' Mac ID.

And, I was able to see that the assigned Mac address in the test code was well working when I did arp command as below.

I would appreciate it if you share your knowledge on my questions.

TI Phy chip does not contain mac address. You can also use your own mac address as you have done in above case.

I can see the MAC address of TI EVM is 70-ff-76-1e-64-ea from EEPROM. However, your answer is still unclear to the simple question. "who needs to provide MAC Address values for the final product?"

Do you mean, for our all products, our company can use the MAC address provided by TI?

Again, could you please let me know who needs to provide MAC Address values for the final product? TI OR our company?

This is a choice that you have to make, Usually company uses their own mac address, but You can always go ahead and use TI mac address.

Thanks for the clarification. Our product will use TI SOC and prefer to use TI mac address.

Could you give me a guide on how to read the TI mac address from SOC and assign it per our product?

Do we need a list of available TI mac addresses?

As I stated earlier TI board/evm will have eeprom(Not on SOC) where MAC address will be fused.

For any other case you will need to get your own mac address.

Do you mean TI MAC addresses can be used only for TI EVM but not for the customer boards using TI SOC?

Please confirm again whether or not our company can use TI MAC address for our final product using TI SOC(AM2432). I think you are saying "NO", correct?

according to this post, AM3357 seems to have TI MAC address. could you let me know again if AM2434 has MAC address like AM3357?

I found the register for MAC address of AM2434. I think we can read TI MAC address from the address below. so, we can close this thread. please let me know if this is not correct.

You are right. These MAC address for CPSW inside SOC. For am243 it is CPSW3g(two port switch), thus 2 mac address, , One mac address. If you are not planning to use CPSW in your application then you can go ahead and use it for ICSSG also.

Its only one in efuse for CPSW. Correcting myself there its one 1 mac address.
