C2000-3P-SEARCH: Vienna Rectifier, Three Phase Power Factor Correction (3 Ph PFC) Design

Part Number: C2000-3P-SEARCH
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-1000, TIDA-010054

I'm looking to use Texas Instruments Three Phase PFC (Vienna Rectifier) to design a 3 Ph 115Vac Line-Line/60Hz input converter with 28V/200A 5.6kW output.

Questions:

1- Is the Vienna rectifier able to draw a balanced current from the 3 Ph source to within 3%.

2- Which element in the Vienna rectifier circuit affects the 3 Ph source current balance.

3- What is the recommended optimum output voltage of the Three Phase PFC (Vienna Rectifier) when operating with 3 Ph source 115Vac Line-Line/60Hz .

4- After the Three Phase PFC (Vienna Rectifier) what TI recommends to be able to implement a Dual Active Bridge DC-DC to achieve a 28V 200A output (isolated output).

5 - Could you refer us to some useful TI design tools, calculators, circuit simulators /documentations for our application other than the TIDM-1000.

6- Which TI controller is recommended for such application other than C2000 microcontrollers.

Kind regards.

Mr. Slim, P.Eng.

  • Hi,

1- Is the Vienna rectifier able to draw a balanced current from the 3 Ph source to within 3%.

We don't have an exact number measuring the current unbalance. But normally the unbalance is very minor.

2- Which element in the Vienna rectifier circuit affects the 3 Ph source current balance.

We have not done much research on this.

3- What is the recommended optimum output voltage of the Three Phase PFC (Vienna Rectifier) when operating with 3 Ph source 115Vac Line-Line/60Hz .

You may try 600V.  However, we recommend to test the condition we suggested in the spec of the user guide

4- After the Three Phase PFC (Vienna Rectifier) what TI recommends to be able to implement a Dual Active Bridge DC-DC to achieve a 28V 200A output (isolated output).

We have a DAB design https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-010054

Also there is a CLLLC reference design for your reference https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-02002

5 - Could you refer us to some useful TI design tools, calculators, circuit simulators /documentations for our application other than the TIDM-1000.

Please download digital power sdk here https://www.ti.com/tool/C2000WARE-DIGITALPOWER-SDK

You can find more information related to the reference design mentioned above.

6- Which TI controller is recommended for such application other than C2000 microcontrollers.

I think C2000 MCU is a good fit for this kind of application.

You can use F28004x/f2837x/f2838x for TIDM-10000, use f28004x/f28003x for TIDA-010054

    Regards,
