DRV110: MAX IPEAK and IHOLD

Hi,

I noticed in the datasheet that the max IPEAK mentioned was 900mA (Section 7.3.3). My application has a solenoid that draws 1.125A max. The DRV110 uses an external FET to pass the current, so I can choose a FET that can handle this current. However, can IPEAK go above 1.125A (say, 1.2A) and IHOLD go up to 1.125A?

Another thing, Page 6 of datasheet shows max IPEAK as 330mA and max IHOLD as 65mA. This contradicts with the 900mA above, for IPEAK at least.

Hi Lu Tan,

The device can only regulate current up to 900mA, even if you include an external FET capable of going above 900mA, the driver will clamp the current at 900mA maximum. This is just how the device was designed.

These are the default PEAK and HOLD currents when the PEAK and HOLD resistors are less than 43.33kΩ.

By chance, do you happen to know a chip either using internal or external MOSFET that can regulate up to 1.2A or beyond?

Unfortunately, this is the only driver capable of PEAK and HOLD current regulation. If you will keep the HOLD and PEAK currents at the same level, I recommend the DRV8212 or DRV8251 as a replacement.
