MCT8316ZTEVM: BLDC Motor coil current waveform

Part Number: MCT8316ZTEVM

Hi

I'm using MCT8316ZT EVM and to drive BLDC motor.

I have checked the coil current by probing using oscilloscope current probe.

For constant duty cycle 50% (Open loop) coil current waveform:

For PID close loop coil current waveform :

Kindly clarify me that the PID close loop current waveform is correct or wrong?

In functionality, motor running good. only doubt is this current waveform correct or wrong?

In these difference will affect the motor performance? check both images and let me know.

Kindly share your thoughts on this and looking forward for your quick response.

Thanks

  • Hi Murali,

Kindly clarify me that the PID close loop current waveform is correct or wrong?

The current waveform for the PID close loop looks ok, it has a bit of distortion, I would recommend testing different lead angle settings (ADVANCE_LVL) to see if any of these settings leads to a less distorted waveform

In these difference will affect the motor performance?

The PID close loop  current waveform that you have sent will likely result in decreased efficiency and increased acoustic noise but, as you have stated, it should have no issue driving the device.

  • Hi Joshua,

Thanks, I'm planning to use SPI variant of MCT8316. It will be addressed.

    Thanks
