TPS61030: Boost converter is not working properly

Part Number: TPS61030

Dear TI Team,

I designed a boost converter  with TPS61030 using Webench tool. In my design,Input voltage to boost converter is (2.7-4.7)V and output voltage is 5V. We were completed our First level PCB and tested, But the device is not working, Getting input and output voltage same.i am attaching Boost converter design obtained from the webench tool. Please confirm that the settings of the various components in the  WEBENCH design are suitable for the usual operation of the device TPS61030.

  • Hi Muhammed,

What's test condition when failed, like VIN VOUT IOUT? Is the load a resistor or e-load? The device can't startup may due to load is too heavy.

Getting input and output voltage same

What does input and output voltage equals to?

I think the schematic is fine. Could you please share your layout? Because bad layout may lead to work failure.

    Best Regards,

    Nathan

  • Hi Nathan,

If I provide 3.6V of input voltage to the input side while there is no load and receive 3.6V at the output terminals.Same Condition at all input voltages. is it NC pin of TPS61030 must be grounded? in data sheet NC pin is not connected and in WEBENCH schematic it is grounded.

  • Hi Muhammed ,

NC doesn't must be grounded, you can take the schematic in EVM user guide as reference.

Have you tried another chip? Is this problem appeared in every chip? I think maybe we need to exclude welding problems or occasional chip damage.

If the problem persists, maybe you can observe some waveforms during start-up, like SW VIN VOUT and share these results to us.

    Best Regards,

    Nathan
