TPS65987EVM: DisplayPort hub with 10G-EXPANSION-EVM

Part Number: TPS65987EVM

Hello,

I have to design an interface between a PC that supports Thunderbolt and a system. One video signal and one audio signal are sent to the system from the PC, and there is a USB2 communication between both too (please see the attached image). Do you think I can use the TPS65987EVM to do this ? Three important questions :

-Will the PC work in display port alt mode even if it supports Thunderbolt ? I assume that if it supports Thunderbolt it will supports DP alt mode

-How can I get some audio signal from the USB signal ?

-The 10G-EXPANSION-EVM is not produced anymore and the page on the website no longer exists, is there a reason ? Is there an otheralternative ?

Regards

François

  • Hi Francois,

-Will the PC work in display port alt mode even if it supports Thunderbolt ? I assume that if it supports Thunderbolt it will supports DP alt mode

The TPS65987EVM(Which has the TPS65987D) does not support TBT. None of the EVMs we sell have a TBT controller on them.

If you are planning on using TBT3, you can use the TPS65987DDJ PD controller. If you are planning to use TBT, we require that you follow the Intel Reference design. You can find more information about the reference design through Intel, and the reference design number is on the TPS65987DDJ datasheet.

The TPS65987DJEVM also does not have a TBT controller. It will work in DP alt mode, but there is not Displayport connector on the EVM.

-How can I get some audio signal from the USB signal ?

You would need to obtain the audio from the DP data.

-The 10G-EXPANSION-EVM is not produced anymore and the page on the website no longer exists, is there a reason ? Is there an otheralternative ?

We were not able to guarantee the 10G-EXPANSION_EVM could provide 10G with various setups and are no longer selling it. We do not currently have another alternative.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
