TPS25751: Alternate MOSFET used in moisture detection feature

Part Number: TPS25751
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD25480F3, CSD25483F4, CSD17483F4, TPD2S300, ,

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I am using TPS25751S PD controller for my battery powered device and we want to implement moisture detection feature into our design.
Datasheet and EVK will suggest below MOSFET to be used.
PMOS :- CSD25480F3
NMOS :-CSD15380F3

I want to know that does other MOSFET (Which i selected) will effect moisture detection feature in any way.
Selected PMOS:- CSD25483F4
Selected NMOS:- CSD17483F4

Also i am using ESD diode in stand of using "TPD2S300" in my design. Does it impact my design?

  • Hi Kaushik,

These FETs have slightly different Rds on which may effects the high and low thresholds for liquid detection. You can configure the high/low thresholds using the Application Customization Tool to match your hardware/system requirements. The default liquid detection configuration in the GUI tool is based on TPS25751EVM which was based on:

    PMOS :- CSD25480F3
    NMOS :-CSD15380F3

What is the breakdown voltage of the ESD diode you're planning on using? The TPD2S300 provides protection for the SBU lines from the connector to TPS25751 GPIO pin as well as LDO_3V3. The response time of TPD2S300 is also quick enough to protect the system from OVP, we have not tested with using ESD diodes so there may be unexpected behavior.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Lin,

Thanks for your response. I am going with Mosfet part with i shared and using TPD2S300 in stand of ESD diode.
When i am going through EVK i found some conflict in implementation of moisture detection.
In datasheet as you see the connection flow is,
PD IC connected with MOSFET then MOSFET connects with TPD2S300 and TPD2S300 connects with USB TYPE C.
In EVK design Connection flow is,
PD IC connected with TPD2S300 then, TPD2S300  connects with MOSFET and MOSFET connects with USB TYPE C.

In EVK design any sure or moisture detected then it may damage MOSFET.
Can you share your thoughts on this.

  • Hi Kaushik,

Please refer to the block diagram shown below:

The EVM designed on placing the TPD2S300 is placed incorrectly and a future revision of the TPS25751EVM user guide will include this error in the errata section clearly documenting how the hardware should be designed. Apologies for any confusion this caused.

Let us know if there are any further questions or concerns!

    Thanks and Regards,

    Raymond Lin

  • Hy Lin,
Thanks for conforming the placement of TPD2S300. This resolves all my queries.
    Closing this thread now.
Thanks for your support and quick response.
