PROCESSOR-SDK-K2G: Linux Version Processor-SDK-K2G

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-K2G

Tool/software:

Hello,

we are using the PROCESSOR-SDK-K2G (version 06.03.00.106) from TI in our company. I wanted to ask if there will be a new Linux version soon. It is important for our customers to know whether support for the current Linux version will continue and we would like to know when you plan to release a new Linux version.

Some customers have heard that support for the current Linux version of K2G will end at the end of the year and we would like to check if a new version has been announced or is planned.

We need to ensure that we have useful answers to any questions from our customers regarding the processor and the Linux version:

- Is support really coming to an end (some customers have heard that support for the current Linux version will end at the end of this year)?
- We would like to know what TI's plans are for a new Linux version, when is it likely to be released/announced?
- Are there options for independent updates without TI?

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Daniel

  • Hello Daniel

Thank you for your post and queries.

I wanted to ask if there will be a new Linux version soon. It is important for our customers to know whether support for the current Linux version will continue and we would like to know when you plan to release a new Linux version.

There are no plans to refresh the Linux SDK to support the latest kernel and no plans to upgrade DSP to support Free RTOS (instead of the legacy, not support TI RTOS) on K2G family of  devices

    - Is support really coming to an end (some customers have heard that support for the current Linux version will end at the end of this year)?

Our ability to provide software support on this is very limited. We do not support TI RTOS (c66x) and we will not be able support queries on SDK 6.x on a much older kernel now. There are no issues with continuity of supply , we are not planning to obsolete the device (Refer to section 23 https://www.ti.com/support-quality/quality-policies-procedures/guidelines.html

    - We would like to know what TI's plans are for a new Linux version, when is it likely to be released/announced?

    No plans

    - Are there options for independent updates without TI?

You can potentially work with any 3Ps/software service providers for any software maintenance/update requirements. 3Ps like Baylibre, Mistral, Einfochips,  Elco Solutions etc maybe able to offer services like these.
