DRA821U: switch question

Part Number: DRA821U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA821

Tool/software:

Hello, I have to ask for your help.

about DRA821U, there is MAIN Domain and MCU Domain, if one Ethernet Port is connected with MAIN Domain, another Ethernet Port is connected with MCU Domain, can the two Ethernet Port work at the same time? in my ideal, if two Ethernet Ports are connected with MAIN Domain,  the two ethernet ports can not run at the same time, because there is a switch, am i right? but if one Ethernet Port is connected with MAIN Domain, another Ethernet Port is connected with MCU Domain, the two ethernet ports can  run at the same time, because the two ethernet ports controlled by different MCU, there are two switchs, am i right?

  • Hi,

about DRA821U, there is MAIN Domain and MCU Domain,

Yes, DRA821 has two CPSW instances as CPSW2G from MCU Domain and CPSW5G from Main Domain.

if one Ethernet Port is connected with MAIN Domain, another Ethernet Port is connected with MCU Domain, can the two Ethernet Port work at the same time?

Both CPSW instances are independent as both will work simultaneously.
Also, all external ports of CPSW5G (1 Internal Host Port, and 4 external Ports) also can run at the same time. No restriction for running all in parallel.

in my ideal, if two Ethernet Ports are connected with MAIN Domain,  the two ethernet ports can not run at the same time, because there is a switch, am i right?

No, As mentioned above all ports can tun simultaneously as each one of separate physical port.

Also, refer to FAQ about CPSW instances supported on Jacinto devices and software available from TI SDK.

Also, refer to TRM for more information about CPSW supported features from DRA821 page.
