AWR2243BOOST: SPI connectivity status remains Disconnected

I've followed your suggestions:

• The NERR_OUT LED is no longer glowing.
• the SOP settings: SOP0 and SOP1 are shorted with jumpers, and SOP2 is open. I've attached a picture for your reference.

However, I'm still facing the same issue with SPI connectivity. The status remains disconnected despite these changes.

Could you please advise on any additional steps I should take to resolve this?

Hi Balu,

I'd suggest please use the latest firmwares ES1_1 from the same folder and check your samtec cable properly if the connection is proper.

Here are the steps I followed:

1. Powered on the device (as shown in the attached pictures).
2. Set the device (Step 1).
3. Connected the device (Step 2).
4. Loaded the BSS Firmware (Step 3).
5. Loaded the MSS Firmware (Step 4).
6. Program the BSS Firmware (Step 5).
7. Program the MSS Firmware (Step 6).
8. Attempted to connect via SPI (Step 7), but encountered the SPI connectivity issue.

No, that doesn't affect the SPI connectivity.

Yes the SOP modes are correct.

Can you try the connecting some other EVM if possible or can you check with some other Samtec cable?

Additionally, can you toggle the SPI switch(just below the NRST button) to CAN and toggle back to SPI again?

I have thoroughly checked the switch settings on the DCA1000EVM board and confirmed that the SOP modes on the AWR2243BOOST board are set correctly as per your confirmation. Unfortunately, despite toggling the SPI switch to CAN and back to SPI as suggested, I am still experiencing the same SPI connectivity issue.

As we only have one set of the DCA1000EVM and AWR2243BOOST boards along with the Samtec connector, replacing the boards is not an option for us. It is crucial that we find a solution to this problem with the current setup.

Here’s what I have done so far:

1. Verified the switch settings on the DCA1000EVM and confirmed the SOP jumper settings on the AWR2243BOOST.
2. Inspected the Samtec cable for any damage and ensured all connections are secure.
3. Attempted the suggested toggle of the SPI switch to CAN and back, but the issue persists.

I would appreciate any further troubleshooting steps or suggestions you can offer to resolve this issue. If possible, I can provide photos or videos of the setup for your review, or we can arrange an online session for a more detailed examination.

I have measured the voltages on the AWR2243 board, specifically on the SPI switch. When the switch is set to the SPI side, the voltage reading is 0V, whereas on the CAN side, the voltage reads 3.3V.

Could you please confirm if it is normal for the voltage to be 0V when the switch is on the SPI side?

I am concerned that this might be related to the SPI connectivity issues I am experiencing.

From the screenshots attached above I can see the No. of Detected Devices remains always 0.

Can you confirm how many XDS ports and FTDI ports are you seeing in the device manager? [ Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) > Double Click ]

• COM Port 4 and COM Port 5: These are the XDS ports.
• COM1: This is the default PC port.

Hi Balu,

I don't see FTDI ports here. FTDI connection is needed to run the device with mmWave Studio.

You need to connect the RADAR_FTDI port on the DCA1000EVM to get the FTDI connection.

After a successful connection you should see the FTDI ports available in the Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) as below image

Hi Balu,

For your setup the port numbers will be different. You will not get exactly COM115, COM116, COM117, COM118 ports.

Can you please attach a screenshot of Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT)?

Was the RADAR_FTDI connected at that moment when you took the screenshot?

You can try re-installing the FTDI drivers from directly mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14 > ftdi folder.

Can you try connecting the DCA1000 directly to power(5V) instead of RADAR_5V_IN. You need one more power cable to connect the DCA1000 and the RADAR_FTDI needs to be connected.

And can you try the whole experiment on some other PC?

Even after this, if the same issue persists then it could be a HW issue.

I am attempting to program the AWR2243BOOST board using UniFlash. The files I have selected for programming are:

• C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_02_02_00_03\rf_eval\rf_eval_firmware\masterss/xwr22xx_masterss_rprc.bin
• C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_02_02_00_03\rf_eval\rf_eval_firmware\radarss/xwr2xxx_radarss_rprc.bin

Please note that I selected the device as AWR1243 in UniFlash, but my actual device is AWR2243BOOST. I referred to the information from the following thread:

My COM Port is 4, and I have attached a screenshot of the Uni Flash version I am using.

However, I am encountering the following error during the process:

[20/08/2024, 11:37:55] [ERROR] Cortex_R4_0: Not able to connect to serial port. Recheck COM port selected and/or permissions.

I'd highly appreciate if you please go through the Studio User Guide that contains all of the basic information how to connect DCA1000 via ethernet, what IP to set and how to identify FTDI com ports, etc.. 

You can find the document in [mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\docs\] folder. Page no. 28 - 30 explains how to connect DCA1000 to PC via ethernet and will be highly helpful for you.

Yes, even if your FTDI is not connecting, the DCA1000 should be connecting via ethernet.

You don't need to set any environment variable to run any example.

Can you try connecting the DCA1000 board to a different power cable other than that you are using for the AWR2243 board?

Have 2 power cables and connect both the boards to different 5V supplies.

Make sure the DCA1000 power switch is switched to DC_JACK_5V_IN and then supply the 5V.

After this can you check if you are getting the FTDI ports?

Hello,

As described in the user guide, there is a switch that needs to be set to SPI mode. Please set this switch correctly.

If this is already correct, most likely there is a hardware issue with the DCA1000EVM. Please submit a return request through below steps based on where you purchased.
