Costs of CSS 5 - Support only for Lecturers. Help Please! :)

Hey TI-Community!

I recently bought a Lounchpad because I thought it would make a good start for hobby or university projects that may come up. I got the LP and wanted to start, so I downloaded a version of the CCS. Unfortunately the version 5, not 4 like suggested in the brochure of the LP. I installed it and everything went good until I wanted to start coding. I watched some tutorials about the Launchpad and there was mentioned, that the CCS is available for ~450$. I was shocked! I didn't want to download a non free version! I am a student, so I can't afford a software that costs 450$. I contacted the TI Support but they only talk to lecturers not students. Unfortunately I bought the LP primarily for hobby projects, so no lecturer is involved.

So my question is: do I have to fear a bill over 450$ or am I afraid for no reason?

Thanks for your help!

  • Hello Alexander,

There is only one CCSv5 download. From there you can choose from the various license types available. One is a free code-size limited license which is available for MSP430:

And since we encourage you to use CCSv5 instead of v4, you downloaded the right one :)

This is for a full CCS license. But there are many free options like the 90 day evaluation license and the code-size limited one as mentioned above.

Do not worry. We will not automatically bill you or anything. Most likely you are using the eval license or code size limited license right now. The only time you would have to pay is when go and buy a license yourself if you wanted a full license.

    Thanks
