TIDA-01465: External oscillator choice

Hi,

I am currently working in my company on a soil moisture sensor. Since the capacitance changes of the soil as it becomes more moist, we can use the FDC2214 to detect this change and the resultant data to indicate the volumetric water content of said soil. We have been testing this setup and works well in stable temperatures, however the measurements start to drastically drift once the temperature changes.

Yesterday I found the TIDA-01465 report which boasts a temperature drift of 0.25% (much much much lower compared to what I am getting in my setup) and that an external oscillator is used (625L3C040M00000). In our sensor the internal oscillator is used of the FDC chip. My guess is that the internal oscillator drifts too much with temperature changes and this is why TIDA-01465 uses an external oscillator. Can anyone confirm this?

    For our product, it is recommended that precision applications use an external master clock that offers the stability and accuracy requirements needed for the application. The internal oscillator may be used in applications that require low cost and do not require high precision.

    however the measurements start to drastically drift once the temperature changes.

    How about the drastically drift? Have you try another chips for the same test?
