CC2541: consequences of BT 4.0 depreciation

Bluetooth.org announced the BT 4.0 depreciation for Jan. 2019: www.bluetooth.com/.../archived-specifications
Does this have any consequences for the future certification of new products?
What does such a depreciation mean in general?

    Details regarding the Deprecation and Withdrawal of Bluetooth Specifications can be found on the webpage referenced in your original post. There are linked documents on that page that provide further details about this process, however a valid Bluetooth SIG account is required, so I am unable to comment on them in a public forum.

    Please note that you can continue to develop and qualify/certify new CC2540/CC2541 End Products using the TI provided QDIDs up until the Bluetooth 4.0 core specification Withdrawal date, which is listed as July 1, 2020 as of post time. End Products that are already qualified prior to the Withdrawal date are not impacted by these timelines and may continue to ship beyond these dates.

    TI intends to update our existing CC254x Bluetooth 4.0 Host/Profile/Controller subsystem QDIDs to the recommended Bluetooth 5 specification by applying the required core specification errata updates. Note that updating these QDIDs to Bluetooth 5 will not add or remove any of the existing features (ICS/PICS) as published in the current BT4.0 QDIDs. Details on when this QDID and associated SDK update will occur are not available at this time so I do recommend that you register for updates via the "Alert Me" button on the BLE-Stack download page.

    Could you share your expected timeline to release the new BLE 5 stack ? We would like to avoid starting a certification process a few weeks before you release a new stack.

    Unfortunately I am not able to provide a time frame as we are waiting on additional details from the standards body, however, we expect an updated listing to be available well before the Withdrawal date. If you would like to know more on this topic, I strongly encourage you (or anyone who comes across this post) to become a member of the Bluetooth SIG.

    Based on our current assessment of the core specification errata, we do not anticipate any material changes to the existing APIs. Also, since there will be no net change to supported core specification features as stated above for these devices, there should be minimal, if any, impact to your certification process since the TI supplied QDIDs encompass the protocol stack testing.
