USB Drivers for TSW1200 on a Windows 7 64bit machine

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5560EVM, TUSB3410

Hello,

I hve just gotten my TSW1200 and ADS5560EVM boards and was trying to set up the TSW1200 first but after I installed the software from the enclosed CD and attached the USB cable then powered up the board I got a Driver warning.  Although it can be seen as a TI high Sp device in Device Manager it says the drivers are not installed. My System runs Window 7 and is a 64bit machine is this the problem?

Yes, at present the problem is that the TSW1200 User Interface installer does not support Windows 7.

The TSW1200 installation installs the main User Interface and then installs a virtual com port (VCP) that makes the USB connection look like a com port.  It is the VCP installer that does not work on Windows 7 as yet.  We are working on the problem.  We do have a new version of the VCP installer that supports Windows 7, and I have installed this on one of our lab PCs with Windows 7, and it worked well.  But that was a completely manual installation.  I now have to bundle that VCP installer in with the main TSW1200 installer like we did for the previous version, and that is where I am still having a problem.

Until i get the new TSW1200 installer ready for Windows 7, we have a couple of options.  You could simply use a PC running XP or Vista for the near term as some have done.  Or if you provide an email contact, I can send you the instructions and materials needed to do the new VCP install on your machine manually as I did on our lab PC.  Or we can wait until I get the new installer working and ready for distribution.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

  • I might end up doing all three options. Getting the instilation instructions will be usefull and my email is sdowney@bfe.com but in the mean time I will put this onto another machine to learn what I can about it untill I can get the instilation togeather on my windows 7 machine. Will there be an issue for a 64bit Window Vista computer or is this just a windows 7 deal?

  • Hi,

Instructions and files have been sent to your email address.

As far as I know, the current TSW1200 installer should be good on Vista, and I have not heard if there is any issue with 64bit versions or not.  If there is a problem, I should have heard about it.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

  • This worked perfectly. Thanks again for all the help. Again no problem iwth the 64bit windows machine.

  • Hello,

I am having exactly the same problem as Stephen. I'm also running Windows 7 on a 64 bit machine and cannot install the drivers for TSW 1200. Could you please email the installation files and instructions to me as well? My email is david.hsu@ni.com. Thanks!

    Cheers!

  • Hi,

This is a copy of those instructions:

We can now get the TSW1200 running on a Windows 7 PC, but with a little more manual intervention than I wish to see.  The process would be as follows:

     1) install the TSW1200 User Interface that came on the CD with the hardware, or (better and recommended) download it from the TI web at: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tsw1200gui-sw.html   This has the original VCP (Virtual Com Port) for the USB connection that would not install on the Windows 7 PC.

     2) download the files for the new driver for the VCP install at: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tusbwinvcp.html   There are several items at this page, but the one we want is TUSBWINVCP_WDF-Single_Driver_v3-2.exe, which is literature number swrc094f. This is a zip file of a single setup.exe installer.  I could attach the zip file to this post, but it is about 10MB.  So I would suggest downloading it.

     3) open that zip file and run the setup.exe program.  This setup program is *not* the installer for the actual drivers for the TSW1200 VCP for Windows 7.  This program simply copies a bunch of files to a location on your computer, and copies what *is* the actual installer which you will need to run shortly. The default location for these files to be copied will be on the C: drive in Program Files/ Texas Instruments Inc.  Examine the directory hierarchy of the files and folders that were copied.   You should see something like the following:

The new USB VCP installer is now designed to work on Windows XP, Vista or Win 7, and on 32bit or 64 bit versions.  One of the sys files it will need is different for each operating system, so the installer will query the PC as to the operating system and go to the appropriate subfolder to get the right sys file.  Also, the installer will need some information specific to the actual hardware to look for, so there is an inf file in the common sections that identifies the vendor ID and product ID for the TSW1200 hardware.  We need to put this information in place before we can run the actual VCP installer.

     4) in the Common-32 subfolder, delete the files usbuart3410.inf and umpf3410.i51.  In their place, copy in the new versions of these two files that I have attached to this posting.  The new inf file is needed to identify to the installer the specifics of the TSW1200 hardware.  The new i51 file is the firmware that is to be downloaded to the USB chip on the TSW1200 at run time.

    5) Repeat step 4, only this time with the Common-64 subfolder.  The same new versions of the inf and i51 files belong in both the Common-32 and Common-64 subfolders.

     6) Now go back up the hierarchy to the DISK1 subfolder and run the setup.exe that you find there.  *This* is the actual installer for the USB VCP that needs to run.  Ultimately I need to bundle this in with the main TSW1200 installer but that does not work yet.  After this step, the virtual com port should be installed on the machine, and when the TSW1200 is connected to the PC by the USB cable, the PC’s found-new-hardware-wizard should automatically recognize the TSW1200 and assign it a com-port.  This worked fine on my Windows 7 machine in the lab.

     7) Open the PC’s hardware device manager to see that a com port is assigned to the TSW1200, if you wish to check the installation.  Or just run the TSW1200 User Interface and see that the com port connection worked and there is a com port number reported in the lower left status pane of the User Interface.

I apologize for having to do the manual steps of the installation at this time.

  • I'm trying to download the files from http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tusbwinvcp.html  but the web page is no longer available.

Where can I find the required files?

  • Hi,

The zip file was moved to http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sllc428 .

The USB team has made fixes to the VCP installer since I first posted the Windows 7 workaround and for some reason had to put it in a new location - i don't know why or why the old location couldn't point to where it was moved.   But in the past few weeks we have downloaded this newer version from this new location and installed it on several machines.   I found that I had to run the first setup.exe under 'run as administrator' for it to work.    And then after that first setup program has copied in all the needed files into its directory structure the second setup.exe was moved up a bit in the folder hierarchy to a higher folder.  Otherwise all the original instructions still apply.  I believe now that this new VCP installer will be able to be bundled in with our TSW1200 installer so that this 2-step process would no longer be necessary.  I am told that our Medical group was able to bundle this newest VCP installer in with their TSW1250 so now i should be able to complete the bundling process with our TSW1200 installer.

    Richard P.

  • Has the online installer been updated yet?  I am having problems with both XP and Windows 7 machines.

  • This installation procedure does not work on my Windows 7 machine.  I followed the process outlined by Richard earlier in this thread but there may be some confusion over the files to use.

    1)  1st installation:  Slic406a.zip --> .../slic406a/Volume/setup.exe

    2)  2nd Installation:  slic428.zip --> .../slic428/TI_WDF_USBUART_SINGLE_DRIVER_TI_V3.3b_wrapper/Setup.exe

    3)  Copied files over from VCP file.zip --> umpf3410.i51  &  usbuard3410.inf  into the  .../Common-32  and ../Common-64 directories in this file path:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments Inc\TUSB3410 Single Driver Installer\Windows\tiinst\TUSB3410

    4)  Ran C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments Inc\TUSB3410 Single Driver Installer\setup.exe.

    5)  Restarted my computer but I still couldn't find the com port assigned to TSW1200.  (Are restarts required between any steps?)

I've seen additional downloads such as slic407.zip but haven't tried them.  There have been a lot of broken links but I concluded the files in steps 1-3 are correct.  In each case I followed the link to the TI website to download.  I did copy the VCP files from the attached zip file in this thread. Is there a single executable available.  If not, what steps am I missing?

One note:  Our computing center may have removed supporting drivers.  For example, I couldn't get my Xilinx USB download cable to work.  It turned out I was missing the device driver called "Jungo".  Once it was installed my download cable worked.  Are there any other support devices/driver required other than those installed using the process outlined above?

    Thanks,

    Schuyler

  • I installed the driver using the files as indicated here.

At first, the system works fine, though, after a while (of which the duration varies), the system crashes (Error Code  0x000000d1 (0x00000000000000b8, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff88007c5f161)).
Could this be caused by a flaw of that workaround driver ?

Is there another, easier to install driver for the TSW 1200 and Windows 7 yet?

  • Hi,

i have not seen a system crash such as you describe.  Is this an error message put up by the Labview runtime engine or from a Windows crash screen?

We do not have an update for the TSW1200 GUI, as this capture card is moving towards obsolescence in favor of the newer TSW1400.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

  •

    Hi Richard,

it is in fact a windows crash screen (blue screen), the system then reboots.

    best regards

    Marco
