Can TVP7002 handle 1080p@24 from component inputs

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP7002, LMH1980

We have an upcoming project where we need an ADC to digitize various RGB/YPbPr formats and we are keen to use the TVP7002 as it seems suitable.

However, there are some open questions related to 1080p@24 coming in via component (=sync on Y). If our understanding is correct then it would seem that RGBHV input is fine. However, can TVP7002 accept this mode from component inputs as it seems from the datasheet that special arrangements need to be followed to support anything less than 40Hz.

What are the necessary additional steps that need to be taken to support 1080p24Hz from component? Is there an example schematic and register settings?

Thank you,

  • The TVP7002 internal sync separator does not support VSYNC frequenies less than 40hz.  However, 24/25/30Hz formats can be supported if a discrete VSYNC input is used.  This can be done by filterring SOGOUT to extract VSYNC or by using an external sync separator such as the LMH1980.

The attachment includes a simple circuit for VSYNC extraction from SOGOUT and I2C settings for this mode of operation.  An exterrnal sync separator (LMH1980) that separates both HSYNC and VSYNC is probably the most robust solution.  If this is used, the TVP7002 should configured to use both HSYNC and VSYNC discrete inputs.
