RTA tools missing from CCS 5.1.1

Just upgraded to CCS 5.1.1.  It looks like all the DSP/BIOS tooling has disappeared, e.g. RTA, KOV, etc.  Here's a screenshot:

I upgraded by downloading the 5.1.1 tarball and installing over the top of my existing 5.1.0 installation.

  • FYI, I also noticed that the "new project wizard" does not have any DSP/BIOS templates.  It's like CCS does not "understand" DSP/BIOS any more.  I can still BUILD my project, i.e. it "sees" DSP/BIOS from a build perspective, but it seems like all the supporting DSP/BIOS components have disappeared.

  • Brad,

There are two know scenarios where all DVT (RTA, ROV, System Analyzer, CCS Graphs, Image Analyzer, ...) features may disappear from CCS5.1.x Tools menu:

    1. Installing MCSDK with MCSA 1.0 (System Analyzer) selected. The System Analyzer in MCSDK is older and not compatible with the one in CCS 5.1.x and should not be selected.
    2. If using an old workspace from CCS4.x ... there seem to be some incompatibility.

The second problem can be resolved by using a new workspace. Both problem can be resolved by installing a DVT patch. See the System Analyzer Wiki -> Know Issues here for details: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php?title=Multicore_System_Analyzer#Known_Issues.2FErrata

  • Imtaz,

Brad and I are together this week and found this problem. We installed 5.1.1 on top of the the current 5.1.0 install. We tried it 3 different ways with the same result and at least two of us used a NEW workspace. So, one of us probably falls under item #1. Two of us tried a new workspace. None of us can see ANY BIOS or SYS/BIOS templates and there is no RTSC tab either. It is as if CCS is NOT seeing the currently installed tools like DSP/BIOS (5.x) and SYS/BIOS (5.x). We have yet to try the FULL INSTALL yet.

    1. I've never installed MCSDK.
    2. I created my workspace when I installed CCS 5.1.0. I just tried creating a brand new workspace.  I still see the issue where File -> New Project does not show DSP/BIOS or SYS/BIOS examples.  (I haven't tried debugging yet but I imagine the RTA/ROV issue is still present too.)
  • Update:  The issue appears to be specific to the upgrade from CCS 5.1.0 to 5.1.1.  The issue seems easily reproducible as it affected me and two other people that I had update to CCS 5.1.1.  Our method of update is to take the complete installer (1.2 GB), run it, and point it to the existing 5.1.0 installation.  I had someone else do a clean install and we haven't seen any issues.

  • Hi Brad,

Are you running on windows or linux? Can you send me your install logs?

On Windows: c:\program files\installjammer registry\ccsv5 (installjammer registry is a hidden folder)

    On linux: $HOME/.installjammerinfo/ccsv5 (note, it's dot-installjammerinfo)

A zip/tar of the ccsv5 folder will do.

    Thanks

    Danish Innis

  • Here's a zip file containing all the files generated during yesterday's update.

    log.zip
  • I had to do the same thing for the Linux version of CCS5.1.1, ie remove CCS5.1.0 and then reinstall CCS5.1.1 before ROV, etc showed up in the tools menu

  • On a linux virtual machine I installed 5.1.1 and tried creating a CCS project with DSP/BIOSv5.  It told me that the DSP/BIOS tools weren't installed.

Thinking I may have not done something right, I tried the install again with the same results.  (I may have tried it yet again...)

Anyway, I eventually tried 5.1.0 and DSP/BIOS support is there.

Something seems to be lacking from 5.1.1

  • I downloaded CCS 5.2.0 with the far-fetched hope that it would "bring back" the missing features when I updated my CCS.  That was a bad idea as that CCS installation can no longer be launched at all!!!!  I'm doing a clean install now of CCS 5.2.0 along side my now defunct original installation.  I imagine I'll be back in business at that point.

Danish, can you summarize what happened here?  In other words, were you able to find the root cause of the missing RTA?  My impression is that something in the installation processed killed it for upgrades.  The clean installations of CCS 5.1.1 that I have seen all worked ok.  However, all the upgrade installs of CCS 5.1.1 had the issue I described originally.  So can you confirm that issue has been identified and fixed such that I have confidence in being able to update from 5.2.0 to 5.2.1 (whenever that comes out)?

  • We have identified a bug in the 5.1.1 update that was corrupting some eclipse configuration files. We have confirmed that this was the root cause of the issue and has since been resolved. 5.1.x to 5.2.0 or 5.2.0 to 5.2.1 will not have the same problem.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.
